    Desert climbing specialist.

Inspired by the steep, remote rock walls of southern Jordan, the Outdoor Research Men's Wadi Rum Pant is the ultimate option for climbing in harsh, hot, and dry environments. Lightweight cotton canvas is built with added Cordura fibers for rugged resilience in the face of rough sandstone walls, and spandex adds stretch for uninhibited mobility on technical routes. Tapered legs keep the fit low-profile for minimal snagging, and the gusseted crotch and articulated design allow you to move without restriction. And when you head back into town to refuel on burritos and beer, the casual styling keeps you from looking out of place.

    • Purpose-built for climbing in hot, dry conditions
    • Cotton, Cordura, and spandex fabric is tough and stretchy
    • Lightweight construction keeps you cool while climbing
    • Crotch gusset and articulated knees allow better mobility
    • Internal drawcord waist for secure fit

    Best climbing pants I've used

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 32x30
    • Height: 5'10"
    • Weight: 165lbs

Great pants for climbing. They're light weight, so they're great for hot days or gym days. A good bit of stretch keeps them from constricting movement at all. The zippered thigh pocket is great for keeping a Clif bar or or folded topo, a phone would also fit, and can be accessed with a harness on. I've had no issues with durability and have no doubt these will be holding up for a long time. Ordered a couple more pairs because I got tired of climbing in anything else. The drawcord is actually a really nice feature, preventing you from needing a bulky belt. I went with the 30" inseam, which is great for keeping them away from my ankles, but the 32" inseam would probably be better for a casual look.

You get what you pay for: poor quality

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 30x30
    • Height: 5'7"
    • Weight: 145lbs

First, the fit is not taper, it flares at the calf to a wide boot cut.
This is my second pair, first from BC, and both have had teeth on the zipper break off with OR not being very helpful.
The material is a blend, but is unusually scratchy for something with this much nylon.
The color is great, and versatile.

    Best pant I've climbed in!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 32x32
    • Height: 6'2"
    • Weight: 175lbs

The Wadi Rum pant does every justice to its venerable namesake in Jordan. Well, as much as a pair of climbing trousers can do to such a wonder of desert landscape.

Since trying on my first pair about a year ago, I have added several to my drawer. Not that the first pair shows any signs of use whatsoever, even after climbing three or four times a week for months on end. It is just that the best products have a way of disappearing from the line-up by way of some inevitable law. I have bouldered in them out of doors, pulled and rolled in the gym, and worn them trekking up the Alps, all with a shining smile.

So what's so great about them? First, the material. Designed for warmer climates, the Wadi Rum is incredibly lightweight for being a cotton blend with added stretch. In my opinion, full synthetic summer garments are seriously over-rated. A marketing campaign that probably started with decent intentions for narrow applications but has since been blown way out of proportion. To my mind, OR has struck a perfect balance. With just enough Cordura added to the mix, the Wadi Rum offer superb durability and reasonable drying time while being very breathable and cotton-comfy next to skin. Never once, rain or shine, have I wished for them to be anything other than what they are.

Second, the cut is simply stellar for a climbing oriented pants! They stretch, they harness with ease, and give you good visibility. They are plenty slim to look good on the street while giving you total freedom of movement on the wall. Why companies keep churning out bouldering pants with straight wide ankles is beyond me. I want to see my feet for technical placement and traditional straight cut restricts your line of sight. With Wadi Rums, I simply roll up ankles two or three fold and can focus on my footwork when I want (and need) to.

There were early reviews suggesting that something was off with the waist sizing but I have found nothing of the sort. I wear 32 in all my jeans and a 32 Wadi Rum is a perfect fit. The inner draw cord is a nice feature that lets you custom fit the waist height without adding an extra belt to your bag. No bunching anywhere for this reviewer who is on the leaner side build-wise.

I also dig the contrast lining inside the pockets, the invisible zipper thigh pocket for valuables, and the understated colors (walnut & fatigue) that match just about anything you care to wear on top. I wasn't a fan of the harsh peacock which looks a lot brighter in person than in the catalog. But that's my one and only gripe.

Outdoor Research, if you're out there, please continue making Wadi Rum. And don't change a thing. You've made a rock pant that absolutely rocks!

    Thanks Gearheads!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 34"x32"
    • Height: 5'9"
    • Weight: 185lbs

I was looking for a pair of durable climbing pants I could wear in warmer temps. I also have the Stretch Zions, and I love those, but they're just too warm sometimes. I contacted my Gearhead and just described what I wanted. Bam. He shot me back an email with these as a recommendation.

They're not as stretchy as the Zions, but they're stretchy enough. Enough for me to pull off a hand-foot match. And they're tough, especially considering how light and breathable they are. Also, having a high cotton content, they seem to resist that "synthetics stink" that builds up after a few days. I guess this also means they won't dry as fast, but I can live with that.

Rich - Gearheads are the BEST for recommendations. They take their jobs seriously and know products inside and out. If they don't have an answer or recommendation, they will find a Gearhead who does. Stoked you found a Gearhead who loves OR! There are many of them over there and they deliver!

    Top Tier climbing pants

    • Size Bought: 32
    • Height: 5'9"
    • Weight: 160lbs

I own the wadi rum shorts too and I think these are some of the best climbing pants yet made. These pants balance a tough, durable construction with perfect mobility.

Quick run down of the features and my thoughts (same as on the shorts):
    - The internal drawcord waist seems like a cool feature, but I've never needed to use it. These fit me just fine
-Thigh pocket is soooo nice when climbing. It even fits my ginormous iPhone 6+. I will note, it feels a bit awkward to walk or bike with given the location on the very front of the leg.
-Cotton/nylon/spandex blend along with the gusseted crotch make for great mobility for all sorts of outdoor adventures and they dry fairly fast

I'm anywhere between a 30 and a 32 depending on the model. The 32 is a perfect fit for me here so I recommend sizing up.

    Such a cool pant!

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 32
    • Height: 5'11"
    • Weight: 190lbs

The features and material of this pant are awesome. I've got to wear some pretty slim pants, so unfortunately the pant legs were too baggy for my waist, but I liked them so much I'm on the search for a slimmer pair by OR!

    Comfty and Durable

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 32
    • Height: 6'1"
    • Weight: 180lbs

These pants are comfortable, great cut. Great for climbing, hiking, or casual at the office. I like the built in belt type thing, kind of like a shoelace at the waist. The Cordura fabric seems very durable, they fit true to size- I use the "long" and usually buy 32/34
