Why We Like The Tundra Aerogel Balaclava
We shield our face with the Tundra Aerogel Balaclava to keep the severe cold, harsh winds, and air rarity from crushing our spirit during high-altitude expeditions. With the added insulation across our nose and cheek bones, we fear frost bite a little less. The breathable, wicking material helps us thermoregulate, while the laser-cut vents help us pull in the little oxygen available.

Fitment needs to be addressed
I think the materials and quality of this were great unfortunately I wouldn't be able to recommend this because of the fit. It's uncomfortable and never feels to be in the right place. Especially the chin area. Hopefully this can be address and it would be great.

Fits well and very warm
Went skiing on a VERY cold day in Vermont. The wind could not cut through this balaclava.

Very comfortable, excellent neck coverage. Nice and Warm.
I tried this out on a cold evening and found it to be very comfortable, I didn't feel cold at all. I do not like neoprene and I carefully hand sewn breathable polartec aquashell (Nylon faced, soft fleece inside) on the mouth covering which also resolved a small issue that the solid material I did not prefer bumping into the bottom of my nose, but now it is soft fleece and keeps my face perfectly warm. I did not even need to throw my hood over it held out fine on its own so I'm sure if it is extremely cold I will not have any concerns.I greatly appreciate the neck coverage and how soft and supple the material is. Thank You Outdoor Research for the excellent balaclava.

Poor design leaves nostrils & lower nose exposed to cold
A poor design that leaves the nostrils and tip of nose fully exposed to the cold. Look closely at the top of the vented panel intended to make it breathable. Above that is a solid piece that fits over the bridge of the nose. There is no overlap between the two parts. Therefore the nostrils and lower part of the nose are uncovered. The rest of the balaclava seems quite warm but for me this is a fatal design flow. I'll be throwing it out since OR does not take returns on balaclavas. In contrast my old OR Sonic balaclava mages to provide a mesh breathing panel and still have sufficient overlap that there is no cold-nose problem. It has a snug fit. If you still want to buy it follow the sizing instructions closely and if anything order larger. Remember - it is nonreturnable.

over all very good
pros material is soft, not ichy thick enough to keep your warm and allows for breathing through the nose size is fine. cons fogs up eye glasses preferred if it the head area was made of more natural material (merino wool)

Fantastic for AK winters
I have used this for snowshoeing in the interior portions of Alaska. My face has stayed warm and comfortable. This balaclava has out performed any previous ones that I have used.

Warm!
I really like the thick padding on the nose. You cannot pull the nose down to below your chin so you can reveal your face, the stitching does not allow it, which is fine with me. I used mine on a 4 day hunting trip in Upper Michigan in November. I do recommend wearing a face mask liner and/or hat to keep you truly warm while not moving. It seems wind/water proof for the most part.

Almost great
The materials and quality look great. In principle, I don't know where else you can get such a technological mask. But, the nose does not really fit the size and the manufacturer should think about it that people's noses are different, including forehead heights, should be more stretchy or adjustable, more adaptable. It would probably be better to have S, M, L, XL sizes separately rather than combined in pairs.
