    Stellar Jacket!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Large
    • Height: 6'4"
    • Weight: 170lbs

This jacket is one of the best values out there! It's light weight, very warm and packs well when you need to layer down. It's a great jacket for those cold fall days at the crag/bouldering, hiking peaks or just cold nights around the campfire. The fit is nice and moves well even while maneuvering technical terrain.

I recently used it summiting a peak in the Wasatch Range and as I gained the ridge the winds really started ripping and with the cold temperatures I had to throw this guy on. And I was very impressed just how well this jacket protected me against the winds without a shell!

    10/10 would recommend!

    Stellar Jacket!

    OMG so warm and cozy

This puffy jacket that folds into its own pock just accompanied me as I summited my first 14'er, in gale force winds at <30 degrees F. This, plus a windproof outer jacket and I was kept really warm, except for my face and fingers. It will be with me on every cold weather adventure from here on out.

Always with me on my adventures

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I love this jacket. It is very versatile. I always have this jacket in my pack. It is useful for so many activities. This jacket keeps me warm camping, taking night pictures, at the top of a peak transitioning on a split boarding tour, and belaying at the crag on a chilly day. It only weighs 14.5 oz and it will pack down into its on own pocket for stashing in a pack. For how lightweight it is, it doesn't compromise warmth. The 650 fill down material blocks wind well and keeps me toasty in temperatures below 30 degrees easily. Layering is easy, I usually on need one or two layers underneath on even the coldest days. It is DWR treated making it water resistant. I bought a size large and it fits true to size. I am 6'0 175lbs. I have been using this product on almost every adventure for the past 6 months.

Always with me on my adventures

    Warmth Galore

I had an older ghost whisperer model that I wanted to replace and so I checked around for a modestly priced down jacket. I came across the transcendent hoody and was intrigued by the design features. I’m not one to worry about weight on backpacking trips or casual wear, so this jacket perfect. Amazing quality, to be expected from OR, and warmth like no other. I’m extremely happy with this jacket and how warm it’s kept me. Been out in mid 20’s with just a baselayer underneath and I was toasty!

    Great Comfort/Warmth, Good All Round

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Large
    • Height: 6'
    • Weight: 180lbs

Ive had this jacket for a month now and here is what I've found.

    Pros:
    Warm.
    Very Comfortable
    Super Lightweight
Flawless Zippers (small detail but worth noting)

    Con:
it is pretty puffy due to the larger baffles. This isn't really a full con because it adds to the great warmth. BUT, for those looking for a solid stand alone jacket that can also double as a good mid layer on colder days you may want to look at the Illuminate from Outdoor Research or other lower profile down jackets.
Also the nylon shell material is extremely lightweight, again to be expected in most down jackets , but I do wonder how it will hold up to regular use and abuse.

    Conclusion:
This is a great everyday puffy that is supremely comfortable, toasty warm and pretty stylish as far as down jackets go IMO. It may not be the top of the line weather resistance but it holds up well to light moisture (beads up and sheds light rain pretty good ). If the weather turns you may want to use another jacket versus shelling over this one as it is pretty puffy, though Ive put a shell over it and it was fine, just not optimal. Overall it is a warm everyday jacket that you can use on the trail and look good in downtown with the technical details that outdoor folks will use and appreciate.

    Good so far.

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Large
    • Height: 5'8"
    • Weight: 190lbs

Just got it and worn a few times. I am a 42 short jacket and a large fits just right for me. I can do a couple of layers underneath. I would go to an XL if I you want to multiple layer under this coat. Nylon feels thin but not unacceptable for a stuffable coat. Great light coat for stuffable use. Stuffs into own pocket nicely. The black is not black. More of a gunmetal grey. It is made in China.

    Good so far.

Faithful Update to a Classic Jacket

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 5'10"
    • Weight: 175lbs

With its wider baffles, softer materials, and modern touches, the OR Transcendent down hoodie is a faithful update to the original. I primarily use this jacket as a casual layering piece and main Fall/Spring outerwear. The fit is absolutely perfect for a medium/athletic build (5’10”, 175 lbs.) with a little extra room in the arms and waist for layering. While I wouldn't expose this jacket to extreme elements without a hard shell, I believe it is perfect for everyday light use down to 20 or 30 degrees. My only gripe is that the color I purchased is not truly black, but more dark grey or charcoal.

    Great so far

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: L
    • Height: 5'11"
    • Weight: 205lbs

Coat is very comfortable and light. A little poofy but that’s what you get with 650 down. I have noticed my car’s seat has some down that’s come out on the back so we will see if that’s going to be an issue down the road.

My Go-to Puffy For Casual Activitys

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 5'10"
    • Weight: 165lbs

This is my go-to puffy for everything casual. I use it nearly every day besides the super cold days in Utah. I would say it keeps me warm to about 25 degrees with just a small sweater on underneath. It's proving to be very durable as I've used it for 4 years now. With it's 650 feathers I only use if or around town and basic hiking. I have other down jackets with 800 fill for times when weight and compression matters. Buy this if you are on a budget and are looking for a great quality jacket!

    Great Puffy!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 5'9"
    • Weight: 150lbs

Gave this to a friend and this is what he had to say about it:
I really like the packability of this coat! Being able to stuff it into its own pocket is great (and makes a nice pillow too). Its warm, comfortable, and lightweight which is also a plus. The only negative is the material is fairly thin and therfore prone to rips when walking through brambles, but I guess this is to be expected with a lightweight puffy.

Overall, I'm very happy with this coat and would recommend for anyone looking for a lightweight coat. Great for climbing or when packability is a concern.

    Great pack and travel puffy

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 5'10"
    • Weight: 160lbs

Bought for small pack down into its own pocket for travel and storage. Still waiting for winter to try out the 650 down fill... Can't beat the Infinite guarantee

    It is alright

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Small
    • Height: 5'9"
    • Weight: 125lbs

I like the jacket because it looks really nice. I got the orange color and it is just the perfect orange. The body fits nicely and lofty. However, maybe my arm is just small but the bicep area is very big. The fill in the arm is quite minimal. I wish it is a bit loftier in the arm.

    Birthday gift for the win!

    • Height: 6'1"
    • Weight: 170lbs

Here's what the birthday boy had to say: "It's hard to find a comparable down jacket in this price point. It fits like I would expect and is warm and cozy. It looks equally good in the city or the mountains. Don't expect it to keep you warm if you are sitting still in freezing cold temps, but when you understand layering and use it for its intended purpose you'll be happy."

I'll take that as a win.

    Versatile puffy

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: large
    • Height: 6'
    • Weight: 165lbs

I wear a size large. Very comfortable and warm, excellent fit. I like the minimalist design. The hood is perfect. Fits well over my shell or underneath. I can wear it on the town or stuff it in my pack for a day of skiing.

    Versatile puffy

    Not terribly impressed

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: MEDIUM
    • Height: 6'0"
    • Weight: 167lbs

Took this to VT this past weekend and really needed a pretty heavy layer underneath to stay warm. The pattern has no real shape to it, making it fit like a barrel. I am 6' athletic build and it sort of fits like a hefty bag. I have a 40" chest and 34" sleeves (perfect medium) and the arms are too long by a couple of inches. Does not hug like a good down jacket should. The fill in some spots is barely detectable. The color is cool.

    Nice down jacket, runs small

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: Large
    • Height: 5'8"
    • Weight: 158lbs

Outdoor Research makes fine products but for some reason their jackets all seem to run small. The Transcendent Hooded Down jacket specs say it's a 'regular' fit. I'm 60 years old and admit not as svelte as I used to be, but at 5'8" and 155-160# with no protruding gut, size Medium in most every other garment works for me. Not this jacket, could barely get it zipped up, very tight in the armpits and throughout, felt like a sausage and forget layering. The great team at Backcountry quickly set me up with a free return and a new size Large. Large fits comfortably, layers nicely over a fleece and not too baggy. The only problem is the sleeves are 2 inches too long so I'm folding the cuffs under for now but may get a tailor to see if they can adjust. Otherwise construction is excellent as you'd expect though some kind of fleece lining in the handwarmer pockets would have been nice.. Haven't been able to test it in cold weather as our New Year's deep freeze has thawed here in Texas but winter's not over yet.

    Great jacket

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Large
    • Height: 6'3"
    • Weight: 180lbs

Really like the range of this jacket; I wear it around town, under my shell while skiing, and it can pack easily into my pack while touring. The fit is great, and the pockets are comfy when looking to warm up while putting on skins or hanging out in the cold.

Only gripe. It is not the warmest jacket around. The arms have less down in the baffles than in the body of the jacket. (Is this normal?) However, the fit is just right to wear a warmer base layer underneath when the temperature drops below 25 degrees.

    Excellent warmth for weight.

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 6'0"
    • Weight: 185lbs

I love this jacket. It's excellent for early morning chills when camping, sleeping in on sub-freezing temp nights, and looks decent too. Like all other down jackets, it leaks feathers and is easy to tear, but that comes with the territory I think. Right price, right weight, great in a layer system.

    Fantastic Puffy

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

The transcendent puffy with hood is great! Provides plenty of warmth. I would suggest getting one with a hood. The jacket is lightweight and packable. This is definitely a must buy!

Any idea how much of the 650 fill is included in this jacket?
