    Layer Appropriately.

Your choice of baselayers can make or break your backcountry experience, so it's important to choose the right one. That's where the Outdoor Research Men's Sequence Crew Top comes in. Made from soft and light DriRelease merino, this top keeps you warm by wicking away moisture and drying more quickly than 100% merino. Its flatlock seam construction provides next-to-skin comfort, while the streamlined design makes for a great first-layer fit.

    • A performance baselayer for comfort during cold outdoor activities
    • DriRelease merino is warm, wicks sweat, and dries quickly
    • Flatlock seams reduce chafing for increased comfort
    • Trim fit for easy layering
    • Item #ODR004K

Works as advertised, but it's polyester.

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

So, this works very well as a base layer, however it is polyester and you will begin to stink very quickly. Compared to other 100% merino base layers, I can only wear this for about a few hours vs 48 before things start to get a bit funky. Yes, this is a bit personal as a review goes, but polyester is polyester...

I was mistaken in thinking this was 100% merino before purchasing, wore it, wondered why I smelled like a men's locker room, showered and for two more days wore an Icebreaker base layer with no issues at all.

It's a good shirt, but I wouldn't recommend it for those who use deodorant (hopefully everyone).

Hey there - thank you for the review! The material is called "DriRelease Merino," and it is 12% merino and 88% poly. There is a treatment in there called Polygiene that helps to reduce stink, but it is poly! The goal with this piece was to find a fabric that dried more quickly than full Merino, felt more natural to the touch than full Polyester, and had a better price point than full Merino. Downside as you point out is that it does eventually stink, although not as fast as 100% poly. Benefits: WAY better pricepoint than Merino, more durable, and a soft hand feel.

Outdoor gear is always a bunch of trade offs. But it's great when this stuff comes up to discuss in a forum. I don't blame you for wanting full merino! Great stuff!!

    Great Base layer

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Large
    • Height: 6'0"
    • Weight: 170lbs

I’ve used this as my primary base layer all winter long, no matter the temps, moisture, or location. It wicks and feels light as can be. In the cold winter, it has just the right hint of warmth. For spring skiing, it never gets hot and I can leave the sleeves down all day to stay out of the sun. I’ve worn it quite a bit in the summer too, for early morning runs or backpacking trips.

    My Go-To Layer

This shirt works great as a base layer skiing, a nice running shirt, or just a comfy warm shirt to wear at home. It fits great and definitely keeps you warm. It's very lightweight, so don't expect it to be a strong mid-layer. I recommend it as a great base layer to use doing anything where it's cold outside. Highly recommended.

    Very adaptive

Great for layering. This shirt's maiden voyage was a climb to the top of Yosemite falls. Is shed layers down to just this when I got hot and it kept me cool. It also kept me super warm as we neared the summit despite my perspiration. My wife also likes the style
