    Snappy style and fierce protection.

Reviving the bold colors of the '80s with the gaiter that set the standard for expedition-worthy protection, Outdoor Research does a flawless job of blending fun style with top-tier mountaineering protection in the Retro Crocodiles Gaiter. Three-layer Gore-Tex and two-layer Cordura work together to guard against sharp rocks and ice, while the double-stitched front closure and 1000D woven foot panel ensure that rain, sleet, and snow are kept at bay while also allowing sweaty moisture to escape easily. Then, the instep strap of triple-bartacked BioThane webbing and buckle-top closure ensure your gaiter is here to stay with reliable security and easy adjustability.

    • Gore-Tex shell provides waterproof, breathable protection
    • Cordura and 1000D woven nylon add defense against rock and ice

    Snow space

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

I was really excited to get these because this color was on sale!!! But upon arrival and fitting them to my boot, I realized that the bottom of the gaiter is not elastic and there is definitely space, say if I post holed, for snow to get in, which defeats the purpose. It just seems like poor design. My previous OR gaiters got crampon rips in them and these definitely look sturdier, but those also have elastic around the bottom part that was very effective. I haven't had any other gaiters besides those so maybe this is a standard design but I don't see them working and will be returning.

    Hey Kaitlyn!

These gaiters have won a ton of outdoor awards and are extremely popular among mountaineers. Are you sure you got the right size? I'm happy to help with sizing questions, but if that's not the issue, have you tried using the reinforced loop at the bottom front of the gaiter to attach it to your boot laces? I'm here to talk through any other questions you have with them if you want!

Hi Kaitlyn, I wanted to echo what Matt says here as well. VERY important to get the right size AND to have a boot with enough volume (not a low volume hiking shoe) that will allow the rand to fit around it properly. Everything should be snug: the wrap around your calf, as well as the fit of the rand on your boot. This top selling and top awarded gaiter has received these accolades because of its design to keep snow and debris OUT when fitted properly, so please allow Matt to help you with sizing. We do not use an elasticize rand on this gaiter because the elastic can be pushed up when stepping through snow and debris, and junk can get in. So this Croc Gaiter has the static rand, but really needs a tight fit. Let Matt help you here and I think you will be super stoked on these gaiters... like everybody else!

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

These are a critical piece of gear for any wet environment! From traipsing around in knee deep snow to hiking in the rainforests of the pacific northwest, these crocodile gaiters are a must. They offer excellent protection up to your mid calf, have tremendous durability if you venture off trail, and most importantly keep all water off your legs and out of your boots. Can't recommend them enough. And who doesn't love the retro color scheme!?

    dry ankles

How could you resist a color combo like this? Easy. You can't. So you get them and prepare to go a tramping in the wets and wilds. The wetter the better with these snazzy crocodile gaiters. I've asked several friends and nobody has had an issue with OR gaiters, so I'm confident this product will perform well and hold up for quite some time. The construction feels very durable and the canvas is very heavy. I do recommend checking out the sizing chart as the size of your calves will dictate the size you need and you do not want these too big or too small.

      Retro cool!

I had a pair of these in the early nineties, unfortunately they were left behind during a helicopter evacuation during the 2013 floods in Colorado. I spent many nights on ebay trying to find the old teal OR gaiters to no avail. When I saw the re-issue of these gaiters at a local store I became excited but a glance from my wife made up my mind to wait for a sale! I look forward for another twenty years with these gaiters, good job OR.
