Designed for high-output cold weather missions where insulation is key but temperature regulation is paramount, the Outdoor Research Refuge Hooded Insulated Jacket delivers breathable warmth and comfortable movement in the mountains. Whether you're climbing on a cold fall day or ski-touring deep in the winter, this jacket and its VerticalX insulation help keep you at an optimal temperature, even when you're working hard. The lofty VerticalX fill and a special ActiveTemp fabric treatment help keep you from getting too warm as you skin up steep ridgelines, while the fabric's mechanical stretch ensures uninhibited movement on chilly alpine climbs. The Refuge has also got a weather-resistant shell that protects you from chilly alpine gusts and light-to-steady snowfall, while the helmet-compatible hood with a special Hood Lock system gives you a snug fit with or without a helmet, so you'll be comfortable and covered whether you're shredding a fresh run with your helmet securely fastened or hanging around the campfire with a baseball hat at the end of the day.

Nice and Warm
I have tested it in 40F with just a t-shirt and was plenty warm, and I don't tolerate cold well... Nice and light weight, not bulky. Good length and liked the simple bungee wrist cuffs. Overall good jacket.

Hooded Refuge that much Better!!!
I have a Refuge Jacket that is the perfect weight and warmth (even for a mid-winter visit to Minnesota). I purchased the hooded version for additional warmth and versatility. I'm as impressed with the hooded version. Excellent design, fit and materials/construction. Another OR score!.

Warm, comfortable, my go anywhere puffy
Love the verticalX insulation, that stuff is warm! A bit of stretch and nice fabric makes this a really comfortable jacket.

Great product, some setbacks.
I use this all of the time. It is a great layer for Vancouver Island. I am 180lbs, 5'9", athletic build and the medium was to tight, especially with layering in mind. I bought the Large and it is way bigger. Some people might not like all the extra room the large provides but I do. You can tighten up the drawstrings to make it fit and layer when needed. I don't like how massive the hood is. I imagine some people use it with a helmet but I don't. You can tighten up the hood but it's a lot of extra material that I have no need for. My next will be the No Hood version for sure. If this jacket had a regular sized hood and was a little smaller, I would give 5 stars. Hope this helps someone.

Exactly what I was looking for!
Great product! Needed a lightweight jacket that will keep me warm on the cold Alaska mountain tops. 5'9" 175lbs and I purchased a large, fits perfect. I'd buy it again.

Jacket was so small I could not zip it up.
Jacket had to be mislabeled in manufacturing. I was really disappointed. I even upsized the Jacket so I could wear it over a Hoodie. It looked like a nice Jacket. Just did not fit or even come close to fitting. My other OR stuff has been rock solid. Not this one.

Disappointed in longevity
I've had this jacket for about a year and the material tears too easily. Both my wife and I have the Refuge Hooded Jacket and both jackets had tears in them after a year of casual use. I'm disappointed in the longevity of this product, I expected more from a great company like OR.

My favorite Puffy
Fantastic product as usual from OR. My favorite synthetic puffy midlayer. I am 5'8" and 170 lbs and I wear a medium, fits well. Just be careful while wearing it as an outer layer, I snagged on a tree and tore the material. From now on I'll wear a shell over it to protect it if I am in the woods. Other than that, extremely happy. It is warm, yet breathable. Extremely light. Best use would be for winter environments, below freezing temps as a midlayer. In a milder climate I would go for the refuge air. Similar product just lighter.
