Outdoor Research's alpine- and expedition-ready Phosphor Mitten isn't complicated, but who said something had to be techni-ridiculous to be quality? The Phosphor keeps it simple with a windproof and water-resistant Gore Windstopper membrane, boasts a tough nylon shell that's insulated with 600-fill down, and has a rugged synthetic suede palm and cozy tricot lining to get you through your mountaineering adventures without any chilly fingers.

    Sized Small

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Some initial impressions about this mitten. It is sized very small. The tag says unisex sizing, but I would call it women's sizing. I usually buy Xlarge mittens because I like them to fit very loosely, but size XL in this mitten is fairly snug. So it's at least 1 size smaller than normal. Also, they are not very puffy at all (see image). It seems that there is not much down insulation relative to synthetic, and so they are less compressible than I was expecting. Nevertheless, they seem well constructed and feel like they'll be very warm. Another plus is that they fit inside the Altimitt shell.
