Ouray Aerogel Ice Glove

Outdoor Research’s Ouray Ice Glove gives you the protection you need from the biting cold while still being agile enough to drill an ice screw and clip a carabiner. This women-specific glove was made to combat the screaming barfies when you're climbing vertical pillars of ice. Outfitted with Gore-Tex Xtrafit, this glove shears wind and water right off the shell while you’re throwing out a figure four as you work a crux section of overhung mixed ice climbing. Meanwhile, Aerogel insulation situated over the palm retains heat and reduces the chance of cold spots appearing in the glove so your hands can stay nice and toasty warm. Built with a pre-curved construction, the gloves are naturally ready to wrap around an ice tool to maximize energy efficiency; this way you’re not fighting against the glove to hold onto your tools as you’re already fending off pumped arms when you near the top.

Size L is too small for long fingers

Familiarity:
I returned this product before using it
Size Bought:
L

I really wanted to keep these for alpine & ice climbing, but they were just too small for comfort. The palm is wide enough but the finger length is too short. The problem is, I bought the size L, so there is no bigger option offered in the women's version. The men's version is too bulky on my palms. It's SO hard for me to find fitted, warm climbing gloves for slender hands. I'll keep using my Mountain Equipment Tour gloves, but hopefully OR can make these in a style that works for me one day!

Warmth out the wazoo

The only time I've ever had my hands sweat in gloves. Thin enough for climb in, and oh so warm. I'm a male, and these fit well for us dudes too for especially cold days.

Didn't like - thankfully I had a backup pair of gloves.

I only used these glove 2-3 times to ice climb. The gel inside started balling up immediately in the creases of my fingers. They would be wet after one pitch and they stayed wet for days. They immediately stretched out and were really bulky. I really wanted to love these gloves. I never leave reviews, and since I had such a negative experience, I thought I'd share.

Love these gloves

I use these mostly for ice climbing. Used my last pair for two very full seasons and just bought these as the replacement. Love them! Super warm gloves with good dexterity.

RUNS SMALL

I am a Search and Rescue volunteer and was looking to upgrade my winter gloves. I wear a Women's L or Men's medium. My hand measurement was 7 1/2" both ways and according to the size chart the Women's large should fit with room to spare. I could barely get my hand into the glove, my fingers did not all the way in the glove and trying to move my fingers made my forearms hurt. I double checked the packaging and labeling and they both list women's large. Perhaps they were mislabeled at the factory, feel more like a children's glove.

Astronaut gloves

I have chronic cold hands. Once my hands warm up, they stay pretty warm in these gloves which does not happen in others. My fingers aren't all that dexterous in these, but they're not bad. Wish they had a size larger. It would be nice if OR made this super awesome NASA material in mittens. I don't think they'll keep me warm in -10, but they seem good up to -5 so far.

Best women's ice glove on the market

This glove takes a little to work it, I suggest training on tools with the gloves before taking them out on the ice. Aerogel technology keeps my hands quite warm, in cold conditions, without the extra bulk of many synthetics. The palm of the hand is Pittards Oiltec which gets grippier as it gets wet. Bottom line, if you're a woman who climbs ice (beginner, intermediate, or hard-crusher) you should try these gloves.
