Interstellar Jacket

Combining the best qualities of a hard shell and a soft shell, the Outdoor Research Men's Interstellar Jacket is a lightweight, air-permeable, moisture-defender that's ready to tag along on any and all alpine ascents you have planned. Acentshell 3L fabric works in the rain

I have an older version of the Guardian jacket with the same Ascentshell 3L fabric. I can attest that it provides effective rain protection despite its seeming thinness and lightweightness. I've spent hours in steady pouring rain and never found that the fabric wets out, which is more than I can say for most other "waterproof" jackets. Its lightweight, thin construction makes it a very packable and reliable summer rain jacket. It's well constructed and the fabric works as advertised without adding unwanted weight and bulk. It has proven very durable over time despite its lightweight feel.

I love jackets that aren't even noticed when you have them in your pack. This is a jacket that should live in your pack. It is durable, 3-layer waterproof and so insanely lightweight that there is no reason why you shouldn't always have it with you. The weather in the mountains is constantly changing and it's awesome to have gear and clothing that can adapt to the weather, this jacket is one of those pieces. If it starts to rain, high force winds, gets colder. This jacket will help with all of those situations. Highly recommend.

How well would you rate the waterproofness of this piece? Can it be relied upon as a primary waterproof jacket for torrential downpours and heavy rain storms? Or is it meant to be more of a lightweight/emergency type piece?
