Illuminator Sensor Glove

The Outdoor Research Illuminator Sensor Gloves are built to fend off nasty weather on alpine ridges or at the local resort. These versatile gloves easily slip under your jacket and hold securely in place with the convenient hook-and-loop closure. No matter how slushy or fluffy the snow is, your hands stay dry from the modern Ventia insert and give your hands room to breathe from the nylon and spandex shell. Equipped with touchscreen compatible technology, these gloves let you snap gorgeous photos on the lift without exposing your hands to sub-zero temps. And since they’re made with toasty PrimaLoft Silver insulation and a goat leather palm, they protect your hands from the elements and help you grip ski poles effortlessly.

Touchscreen doesn't work

I use these gloves on a regular basis, but the touchscreen ability never worked for me. The gloves fit great, especially after they broke in. The only issue I've had is that the thumb design makes it so that there is extra room in the thumb area, and you can't really use your thumb as well to do stuff like close a buckle on your backpack. I use these gloves walking my dog, resort skiing, and back country skiing. It has enough grip for picking up dog poop, but closing buckles is a bit hard!

Touchscreen doesn't work

Gloves feel comfortable, but touch screen compatibility is bad, it doesn't work with my iPhone 12 no matter how much I try. I'm not sure if it's because I have tempered glass to protect my screen. I was excited about the gloves, and very bummed out that they don't work. In terms of fit, I am between a medium and a large. I ordered a medium because I wanted to have a tight fit for dexterity, but I think a large would have been better. It borderline fits!

Solid ski, ice, alpine glove

I purchased these gloves primarily for ice and alpine climbing in the Cascades. I was initially skeptical of their ability to perform in technical terrain due to the unnecessary "sensor" aspect, but I've been impressed. I'm buying a second pair so I can have two pairs for longer/overnight missions. They are just dextrous enough for me to feel comfortable leading ice and handling gear. They've become my cold-weather leading, all-weather following, and warmer-weather belay glove on ice. Though not Gore-tex, I haven't had them soak through yet and they seem relatively waterproof (I treated them heavily before use). In the right temps (ie: mid-20's) - these feel like a "quiver-of-one" glove for ice/alpine climbing (though I'd always bring extra gloves for safety). They work great in those temps as a ski glove as well. The only thing I'd change: get ride of the sensor aspect. Feels like a marketing gimmick that doesn't actually work well and decreases the durability of the glove.

Nice gloves, but run small

I got these gloves for my husband for Christmas as he needed a pair of waterproof & warm gloves for hiking, skiing, working. They appear to be very nice gloves, but they run quite small so I will be returning them as there is no XXL and the XL don't fit him at all. They are more like a men's small or women's large! Too bad.

Gloves I will actually wear

The sizing chart is accurate. I love these gloves and how they fit. I usually despise wearing gloves, but these are comfortable and non-restrictive.

Perfect for all cold weather adventures!

I wear this for walking my dogs! Keeps me nice and dry/warm! Fits my small hands and shorter fingers perfectly as lost gloves are ridiculously too long in the fingers for a petite person!

Great gloves! With one big negative...

I'm a big OR fan, and love these gloves except for one major thing...if you take them off and your hands get wet, it's REALLY hard to put them back on; especially getting your fingers all the way in.

Good for skiing not so much for iceclimbing

Poor dexterity for iceclimbing and basic climbing manipulations. So I wouldn't recommend for iceclimbing but they're very good for skiing!! Very warm gloves and super confy and easy to put on!

not fully waterproof.

I did a lot of research on these gloves and was counting on them to be waterproof. I went snowboarding with them, and I maybe touched snow twice at most, but a couple of hours in, the inside of the right index finger was wet.
