Hyak Pants

You're not afraid of a bit of unfavorable weather—you'll be playing outside whether it's scorching hot or icy cold—but sometimes dressing for those shoulder season adventures can be tough to figure out. The Outdoor Research Hyak Pants are here to help you take on whatever adventure calls with a durable construction, comfortable warmth, and easy stretch for spring ski tours, alpine climbs, and chilly mountain hikes.

The durable double-weave fabric can handle scrapes against ice and rock, and stretches with your body as you push up steep bootpacks or difficult multi-pitch climbs. Articulated knees and a gusseted crotch aid your natural range of motion as well, so you'll have even less fabric resistance as you move. Water and wind resistant performance protects you when the weather gets a little bit iffy, while gusseted ankle zippers and elastic drawcord cuffs give you total control over your leg openings. Plus, you've got a ton of secure zippered pockets to keep snacks, maps, and gear stashed, including an avalanche beacon pocket to keep your most important piece of gear safe when you rock these pants during more deep-winter pursuits like backcountry ski-touring, ice-climbing, and winter hiking.

Perfect for Canada winters

Perfect pants for Canada winters, and even spring and fall, if you live up north as I do. Fabric is typical OR quality softshell, with a very soft and pretty warm interior fleece lining. Feels like your comfy warm pajama pants without looking like it. With age, they do lose a bit of softness, but they're still totally worth it. In fact, I like them so much I bought a second pair after almost a year with the first one.

Very comfy

Well made and comfortable. Stretchy material is water resistant but doesn't get in the way. The pants barely fit around the top of ski boots

Awesomely built

Ankle zips, smart pockets, stretchy and strong. Everything you'd want from an outdoors pair of pants. Thumbs up OR.

New favorite pants

Right now I use them for daily wear. They are my go to travel pants as they are the most comfortable pants I own, by far. Plan to take them on a hike in the near future

Great All Around Pant

I recently purchased these as an all around back country pant. I have had them for a about a month now and have worn them on a few outings in the Mountain area around Crowsnest Pass. They come with a mild insulation, which I layered on top of some merino bases. Seem to be pretty good and I have no issues so far. They are nice and light.

Happy Pants

The Hyak works well for my backcountry skiing needs. Good lightweight, breathable and warm qualities. I wear one thin Icebreaker tight underneath and it's perfect for climbing on skis and descending. Pockets are good and roomy, especially the side thigh pocket where I keep a camera and a bandanna (it also has a special pocket for a transceiver). I unzip the leg zips so it will fit over my ski boots. The tightening cords that I do not use have a hook retainer inside the leg to keep them tidy. They mostly stay put and out of my way. Removing seems problematic. Only improvement I would make is the addition of a back pocket for a wallet, although that seems rare in these types of pants. I am 5'11" and 165, medium is snug but good, as a soft-shell should fit.

good all-around pant

I run warm and these have been my go-to ice climbing pant. Even when it's freezing cold, a lightweight legging keeps you warm. of course not ideal in rain but even in a wet snow event on ice, I stayed warm all things considered. These also serve as my full-time winter hiking and dog walking pant - even great for cold days on rock.
