Hyak Pant

Outdoor Research eliminates the need to bundle up in bulky, restrictive layers with its Hyak Pant. This midweight softshell is not only constructed from a durable movement-mirroring stretch fabric, but also features articulated knees and a gusseted crotch to provide you with a natural, unrestricted range of motion. Not only does it allow you to move freely as you ski, hike, or climb, but the pant is also wind, water, and abrasion resistant to keep you protected from the elements and the trail when you're in the high alpine. For added convenience, the pant has gusseted ankle zips to allow the pant to fit comfortably over your boots while an inner ankle drawcord that doubles as an instep lace prevents the pant, or snow, from drifting up past your boots if you're out without your gaiters.

Battle Tested in Back Country !

Familiarity:
I've used it several times
Size Bought:
L

Finally used these for 3-day back country camping and hiking in Yellowstone. Extremely comfy from minute one to done! They repel water beautifully during showers and riverside yet somehow breathe! Super quick to roll up and stay up when crossing streams. Didn't get funky after three straight days of wear, even with range of temps from 40s-70ish. Pockets were perfect for everything I needed yet kept stuff out of the way and totally secure. With all the movement and the weight of the bear spray they did get a little looser after wearing so I'd say size snug to start. I could maybe have squeezed into a medium but I prefer my pants a little more loose for movement. The look is simple, not excessively techy or cargo-esque. They are a bit long as some have mentioned but it wasn't a problem. The length and zip-out would be helpful over boots for those of us who live in real winter conditions. We're in MN and I can easily see myself using these from fall hikes through warmer XC ski days to thru late spring camping by Lake Superior. Or just winter dog walks. We'll see how the lining holds up after more washes and wears in the fall.

These pants flow. Movement is not restricted. They keep you warm, I have two pairs now I use them skiing with some suspenders for my style bib and I?m happy all season. Stretchy and has room for layers.

Great fit for tall people

Just received these and it's a mixed bag. The XL fits my post-pandemic 5'6" body but are about 4-5" too long. I may see if a tailor can shorten them with a seam above the leg zippers but if that proves too expensive I'll have to send them back.

Best Pants

Bought these for active wear in cold weather. Super comfortable and fit like a glove. Just enough stretch but fully retain their shape. Have bought two pairs now.

Amazing pant but ordered wrong size

These pants are amazing. The fit is flattering, they move well, their pockets are in the right place. I imagine they'd be good for everything I had intended to use them for (snow shoeing, hiking, x-country skiing). Unfortunately I ordered the wrong size, but am planning on sizing up and ordering those!

Longer than expected

Quality product. I tried size small on in-store and they were slightly too big all around, especially the length. I ordered XS thinking that the length would be rectified. This was not the case, it's about 2" too long. My husband also ordered the same pair of pants and he had the same issue, too long. It's something that we'll have to live with because it'd be too expensive to have altered with the zipper/grommets involved. Other than the length issue, great pair of pants.

Overall, pretty good

Overall, not bad. I am 5'7'' and 190. I typically wear a 10-12 size pant so I bought a Large and am happy with that. They fit a little long in the leg despite the 'regular' inseam. Stretchy and comfortable to deal with the vagaries of spring weather: 40 and sunny on my bike ride to work and snowing on the ride home. The lining is nice for warmth but I'm constantly leaking little balls of fluff: I'm guessing that the lining is pilling badly and I'll have a pair of unlined pants before too long. Good for now but definitely should be looked into.

Buy Two Pairs- Love these

I love these pants. I bought them to go ice climbing and they are great. They don't slip down, I can fit a base layer underneath. I love the fleece lining. They're breathable and waterproof. I am definitely going to get another pair (my crampons knicked a small hole behind the knee --my gaiters cover the small hole but didn't have the gaiters on at the time) so will definitely be getting another pair. The small hole isn't stopping me from wearing them --I love them that much. I bought a size small--I'm 5'3" and 125lbs and I am still amazed at how well these pants fit.

Best Pants

I've wear these cross country skiing and they are perfect! I also wore them when it was 20 below with long underwear and they kept me warm! I'm 5'4 and 140 pounds and the medium fit perfectly.
