Hemispheres Jacket
The Hemispheres Jacket is new to Outdoor Research's lineup of bomber winter gear, and it's ready to rip—frontcountry or back. It features a Gore-Tex membrane with fully sealed seams, delivering a dry ride from first chair to last, from skin track to powdery descent, all winter long. And, due to the breathable nature of the membrane, you won't find yourself overheating when you're scouting out the goods. Side vents do run from hem to pit, though, so there's plenty of ventilation if you really need to dump excess heat. Should the forecast call for stormy weather instead, you'll be more than prepared to face an onslaught of flying snow, with an adjustable storm hood, drawcord hem, and hook-and-loop cuffs to keep the cold out.
Where the Hemispheres Jacket really stands out from the crowd of other hardshells, however, is the incorporation of Gore-Tex stretch panels at the hood and beneath the arms. This fabric works just like regular Gore-Tex, providing breathable, waterproof protection, but it does so with unparalleled stretch—leaving you free to focus on the fresh tracks ahead.

I am 5’3” and this fit perfectly for someone who is petite. I tried other manufacturers and found the arms long or jacket went farther past my butt than desired.

I have been in need of a new rain jacket/ ski jacket and this one does the trick! I will be wearing this coat around town in rain or snow this winter. I wear the small and it has room to put layers under. (It may not be the most fitted jacket but I like a shell that way.) The material is tough yet flexible. I wore this jacket snowboarding with a base layer and micro puff and stayed warm and dry. I love the small frame in the brim of the hood and how adjustable it is. It does seem more breathable than some other shells with the new cool stretch panels under the arms. With that said just like in other shells you will heat up if you are doing strenuous activities. The pockets are great I used the chest one for my ski pass as well as my phone for music. I am surprised by how much I like the side zippers. They made it helpful to get to my other pockets while seated on the chair lift or have some airflow. Overall it looks cool and works great. I am curious to see how it will hold up after being stuffed in my backpacking pack multiple times this Spring. : )

I have used this jacket backcountry and resort skiing and I love it. The fabric is sturdy, waterproof and breathable (Gore-tex...duh). I love the zippers that come up from the hips so that you can keep your coat on for the uphill but easily regulate your temperature. There are snaps at the bottom of the zippers too, so that when you unzip the hip vents, the fabric doesn't flap all over the place. The hood is nice and big for a helmet or layers. And the collar is nice and tall for windy days and the downhill. I also just love the look of the jacket. It's a good looking jacket.

The Hemispheres jacket is a tough, yet comfortable jacket for all conditions. I run pretty warm when I'm walking uphill, so don't tend to wear a hardshell on the ascent.......unless it's wet, windy or otherwise nasty. The nice thing about this jacket is that the softer main Goretex fabric combined with the stretchy Goretex panels make it more comfortable than other hardshells of similar waterproof-ness. There are good, functional pockets, including an external chest pocket that fits a phone, GPS or other tools, and internal mesh pockets for drying gloves or quick storage of skins. The hood is large enough to fit over a climbing helmet and most ski helmets. Overall, this is a great jacket for when you need bomber protection.
