Why We Like The Helium Insulated Hooded Jacket

It can be hard to split the difference between the plethora of synthetic insulation midlayers on the market today, but we think the Outdoor Research Helium Insulated Hooded Jacket sets itself apart by combining extreme packability with desirable durability. This combination is made possible by the Diamond Fuse face fabric and VerticalX Eco insulation. This insulation packs down to fit in our pack easily, while the face fabric keeps us stress free at the crag, on big walls, and when bushwhacking through the forest.

Will Be My Travel and Casual Go To Jacket

I have not tested this Jacket in cooler weather yet but love the feel and fit. I am 5ft 8", 167lbs and the Large size fits me well with plenty of room for a light fleece underneath without being tight, and I like its not as form fitting as my Patagonia Nano Puff. The only negatives are the arms are a little boxy and I wish the hood had a draw cord. The Insulation in my opinion even seems a little loftier than my Nano Puff, but they are somewhat similar and not as lofty as most down jackets. If I own a Nano Puff why would I buy this, because I wanted a lightweight synthetic insulated jacket with a hood for cooler, damp and windy mountain hiking, backpacking and Autumn / Spring mornings camping when my down jacket is just too warm and I don't want to wear a rain shell or heavier soft shell just to cut the wind. I probably would not pay full retail but at the reduced price this is a very versatile and good looking insulator for both outdoor use and casual / travel wear. I think the Blue Cascade color is maybe more ocean / greenish blue but looks good.

Solid purchase

I have worn it a few times rather comfortable and warm. Can't wait to use it this winter.

Great jacket

High quality synthetic puff. Warm, conpressable and much more breathable than down. DWR coating is very good as well as the fit and finish of the jacket. Only downside is the hood synch is not great. I'm 5'9 190lbs and the large is a perfect fit.

Versatility

Really appreciate the look of it feel light weight and versatility of this new helium insulated hoodie. I began wearing it for spring skiing here in Idaho in mid March over another fleece from Outdoor research which worked really well in both conditions. Then it became my go to hike jacket for hikes in the 30s and 40s sometimes 50° temperatures and then win with the hoodie it really worked well

Light, warm and packable

I keep this in my bag at all times during winter as a last resort layer for myself or clients. Packs really small, ultralight and a good amount of warmth. My only complaint is the pocket size. They should definitely be deeper. Overall great layer to have for most days in the mountains.

Light, toasty and surprising durable.

My last puff jacket had more holes than Swiss cheese and looked like a quilt it had so many patches. Taken this on 6 hikes where I've torn holes before and haven't had any problems with light brushing past branches and whatnot. A pleasant surprise, but still not crazy heavy duty

Perfect lightweight jacket.

I love how warm my Helium Hoodie is for spring or fall and layer up and it will be fine for dryer winter as well. So easy to stuff in a small pack for a hike and bring out when the temps drop. I also love the bright blue color.
