Design detail review

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
Size Bought:
M
Height:
5' 6"
Weight:
155

I don't typically purchase items like this online because the importance of details when comparing similar items. But I bought this and have many details to share that aren't obvious in pictures, or noted in other descriptions including the OR website or reviews to help you. Let's just get into the details that aren't mentioned. Main zipper: 2 way main zipper that uses the sturdy YKK zippers and have that recycled plastic feel. Don't know the benefit of a 2 way zip? It can splay out for sitting versus bunching up. Also you could put both zips together in the middle so you have max air flow without it opening up (like only buttoning the middle button on a button down shirt). This feature is uncommon (marmot precip stretch also has it). Pit zips: also have 2 way zip which I've never had before and are nice. The pit zips are very long which mean they get very close to the pockets (see picture) I have gone to unzip the pocket but grabbed the pit zipper instead many times. Pockets: they are large and are mesh lined (so additional venting when open). They are not fleece lined. Flap is nice width and no unnecessary velcro! Velcro: 4 total: a patch at the bottom and the top of the storm flap, and each wrist cuff. I personally like less velcro and would rather have no wrist cuff velcro because I never cinch it down. I originally thought there should be at least one more velcro on the middle of storm flap but I'm glad it isn't there. Hood: fits great when you get the back adjuster dialed and has a semi-firm brim. I can turn my head and see well. I tested it with a pro-tec skate helmet and it fits but pretty snug. Fit: I have to say for me, this is a bit big. I'm always unsure about whether to go small or medium, and I wish I bought both with the intent to return one. Sleeves and waist are a little long which I like for covering my butt and putting my hands inside BUT the sleeves are really baggy and feels a bit huge when driving especially if you've been wearing "athletic fit" more recently. I don't own a puffy, but I was able to layer a synthetic insulation hoody and a fleece together underneath and it looked and felt good, not too snug. This has the typical issue of when zipped all the way up - my chin is in/ out/ rubbing. Material: the ascent shell material feels really good. A little velvety and "expensive" feeling on the outside and in (not plastic feeling inside) and the inner gray color looks nice and neutral and it will certainly show when wearing unless fully zipped. Use/exp: I have worn this: alone in 45-55 on lake shore, felt great and needed venting. With a layer (fleece or synth. hoody) in low 30's all zipped up and hood up, felt good. Only been rained on twice and wasn't for very long but the water beaded right up and when shook, falls off. I've done city walking and mostly flat trail walking with only a light pack and it was comfortable. Last details: Stuffs into L hand pocket but I typically just fold it up and stuff into easy access pack pocket or paracord, gets smaller and less wrinkled. Medium =13.2 ounces. This should not be called "climbing/ hiking" compatible because my pack hip belt totally blocks them, and the chest clip totally blocks the chest pocket but this is common and I don't mind. Hope to wear this as my sun blocking, branch fighting, summer multi day hiking shell - couldn't exp that yet. Cheers for reading through!

Great jacket

Love the color options, it does a great job repelling water. Ran a little small in my case, thought L would do the trick but ended up with XL so I could have a little more movement.
