    Ferrosi Pant

Your Outdoor Research Men's Ferrosi Pant isn't going to flash that route for you, but it will make your day at the crag all the more comfortable. This softshell sports a quick-drying wind- and water-resistant synthetic construction, with a comfortable stretch and articulated knees that let you move freely on the wall. Outdoor Research stuck a zippered pocket on the thigh for easy access when you've got a harness on, and the lightweight construction feels breathable on warm days but protects you enough for windy spring climbs as well.

    • Durable softshell pant with free movement for hiking and climbing
    • Tough ripstop fabric provides abrasion resistance on rough rock
    • Wind and water resistance offers protection from changing weather
    • Movement-mirroring stretch and articulated knees enhance mobility
    • Zippered thigh pocket offers harness-compatible storage
    • Drawcord adjustable cuffs help seal out updrafts as you climb
    • Item #ODR00YW

    Great outdoor pants

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Height: 5'8"
    • Weight: 155lbs

Great pants. Kind of on the long side but the waist feels true to size. Very comfortable in summer and fall months. Haven’t tried winter yet with a baselayer underneath. Will keep you posted.

    I’m going through changes

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: 32 & 34
    • Height: 6'0"
    • Weight: 175lbs

This is a general review of the last couple Ferrosi pant designs. I don’t have the newest version, but I’ve owned several pair of the previous two versions (bought in 2016-2018). I’m not a fan of side entry/chino style pockets, but if they’re deeper than the last version it would be an improvement. The side pocket also looks to be unusably small, but I like the top entry side pocket over the vertical zipper. A good compromise would be an angled zipper side pocket so things would stay put if opened while sitting or climbing & still usable when standing. I don’t like slim cut pants for casual use, but for hiking, working out or riding a bike I take function over form & they work great.

I have both 34 & 32 sizes, and my waist is a little over 35”. The 34” are way loose with plenty of room for heavy weight top & bottom base layers. The 32” are snug in the waist & fit perfect everywhere else, but if I gain a few pounds or do any ab exercises that day they’re too tight. Length is perfect on the 34 & a little short on the 32. My inseam is usually 32-33 depending on cut & if they’re designed to sit at or below the waist.

It seems like every time OR does a style change (like on the Ferrosi line - pocket design/cut on pants & zipper/chest pocket on the jacket) they make them less functional. I avoided these due to the new cut & pocket design of the last two versions. Leta, if you see this, please pass this on to the OR design team. Also, please bring back the Equinox pant (non-convertible version). I much prefer the Equinox fabric to the Ferrosi, as it’s more durable, doesn’t pill (so it stays looking good) & slightly thicker for cooler temps.

    Baggy

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: 28x30
    • Height: 5'6"
    • Weight: 120lbs

These pants are quite baggy, and feel particularly longer than they suggest. The material itself also feels incredibly thin. I would say they're fairly adequate for their purpose but there are better pants out there ...
