The Outdoor Research Ferrosi Hooded Jacket is a versatile softshell jacket that offers moderate weather protection and rugged durability for all of your outdoor adventures. Newly updated with durable reinforcements in high wear areas, this trusted softshell jacket provides wind and water-resistant protection in alpine environments, along with the abrasion-resistance you need when you're navigating rocky pitches and rough trails. The body and hood are made with OR's tough, movement-mirroring Ferrosi fabric, while the shoulders and lower sleeves deliver even more durability with rugged Cordura ripstop keeping contact-heavy areas protected.

Offering breathability and stretch for active days in cooler weather, this jacket features a fully adjustable hood to shut out the wind when you're enjoying the view from the summit, as well as an adjustable hem to help seal out updrafts when you're on the wall. UPF 50+ sun protection keeps your skin totally safe from harmful radiation when hiking or climbing in exposed conditions, and thumb loops offer glove-less hand coverage. Plus, you've got easy packability when your shell isn't needed, so you can roll the jacket up into its own pocket and clip it onto a pack or harness thanks to the convenient carabiner loop.

    Very good Jacket

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

I really love this jacket - it’s perfect for the California sunshine. Breathable and will keep light rain/wind off. Only con is that in anything stronger than light winds it will not do the trick as I unfortunately found out the hard way.

This is the jacket I’ll be using 95% of the time when I’m out and about in normal weather.

    Breathable Versatility

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium

This thing is durable enough to climb in while maintaining fantastic breathability. Hike, bike, climb, fish, whatever--this thing will hold up well. I wouldn't, say, scuba dive in it, but if you need a lightweight, breezy soft shell, this thing is the way to go.

    This Jacket does it all!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: large
    • Height: 6'0"

The Ferrosi hooded jacket quickly became my favorite jacket of all time! My body heats up quickly when I get moving, This jacket has the perfect balance of breathability, water resistant, and warmth. It breathes so well, I can stay warm enough when I am working hard but not overheat. It wicks away sweat, light rain, and dry snow. The material is comfortable, durable, and stretchy. I use this jacket for everything from touring, split boarding, spring resort day, rock climbing, hiking, trail running, or even a casual outing. It is durable enough to trust that it won't rip when climbing or cruising some pow in some trees. I am 6'0, 175 and a large fits me perfectly. I would highly recommend this jacket to everyone!

    This Jacket does it all!

    A versatile go to jacket

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
    • Fit: True to size

I got this jacket for my husband for our camping trip down in the desert. He wore it the whole time we were there and loved it! It was perfect because it's not insulated and breathes well, so it was great for warmer weather. It kept the sun off of him so he didn't burn which was great. We did a lot of hiking and scrambling and the jacket held up great. Even after brushing up against thorny bushes and rough limestone, the jacket didn't have any abrasions.

The stretch the jacket offers makes it incredibly comfortable. It doesn't restrict you at all no matter what you're doing. He said he plans on this being his go-to climbing jacket when it's a little windy and he wants to keep the chill off, but still have free range of motion.

It did get a little windy towards the evenings and the jacket cut the wind great. He didn't have to throw on another layer until the temperature really dropped at night. It didn't rain at all while we were there, so not sure how it holds up against moisture, but from the feel of the fabric, it seems like water would just bead up on it and be easily brushed off.

My husband is either a medium or large in most jackets (more often a medium), and the medium fit great! He is 5'7 and 180lb

    Stretchiness makes it more comfortable

    • Size Bought: XL
    • Height: 6'7"

The water-repellent fabric beads-up light rain nicely. The wrists are elasticized, but not adjustable. I love the stretchy fabric, which is softer and quieter than a regular wind-breaker style nylon.
I actually have last-year's model, but the 2019 is even better-designed. At least the one advantage I noticed was that the new hand-pockets have one extra panel, which makes them a little warmer, but even more handy is that it now forms a roomy interior pocket which is very useful for stowing gloves or hats. I almost bought the newer one on the spot, but last year's still is a great jacket with plenty of wear left.
