Ferrosi Convertible Pant

Outdoor Research took design and function into consideration when creating the Convertible Ferrosi Pant. Nylon and spandex merry together to create a breathable and flexible pant that takes wearers from scree fields to city streets, and added waterproofing protects in fast-changing mountain conditions. When the weather heats up, zip off the lower pants for shorts, and as the sun dips below the horizon, reattach for added warmth.

Multiple zippered pockets keep passports and phones protected and within reach when traveling through crowded city centers, and the higher waist works well with harnesses or backpack waist straps for added comfort on long days. Take the Ferrosi’s from crag to work and then stuff them in your pack for your next international adventure.

  • Convertible plants for the alpine or abroad
  • Nylon ripstop protects in scree or overgrown terrain
  • Convertible softshell for all day wear, no matter the weather
  • Zippered pockets keep valuables safe and close
  • Softshell fabric creates breathability and mobility
  • Soft waistband for little to no chafing
  • Item #ODR00V7

So, I loved everything about these pants-- almost. I'm 5' 8', 130, and ordered the 4. They fit great in the length and for once, I found a pair of hiking pants that don't sag in the rear. They fit perfect everywhere expect for around my thigh where the zipper is. It wasn't super tight and it didn't squeeze so much it hurt, but after sitting on the couch in them for a while I had marks around my legs where the zippers are. They are super stretchy, so I didn't feel the zipper hindered movement at all, but I definitely felt that zipper seam the whole time I was wearing them and I just couldn't get past it.

I got these pants for my girlfriend, and she has not done much in them beyond trying them on. She likes them a lot and says the fit is great except the convertible zippers can be a little annoying and a bit restrictive on the legs.

Bought these as a gift for my mom and she's been really happy with them. She says they work great for locations with big temperature fluctuations (cold in the morning then hot in the afternoon).

For years, I was extremely anti-convertible pant, but when I needed to streamline the clothing I was bringing on a multi-day backpacking trip, the Ferrosi converted me to the convertible life. The nylon fabric is comfy, yet breathable and high-activity approved. But what really sold me is the cut -- they aren't baggy like most of the convertible pants I have tried on, but they flare out enough on the bottom to fit over a variety of boots. I usually rock these when the weather is unpredictable or during spring/fall when you have cooler mornings and warmer days. I wear a 26 in jeans and went with a size 4 for these. I have short legs, so I do have to roll them up a bit to accommodate that.

These pants fit great and I love the length of the shorts when legs off because they are longer and don't ride up. Quality snaps on the waist and like that the drawstring is there to to adjust the waist also.

excellent technical wear. i was golfing, it was cold, and i had the legs zipped on. 2 hours later it got really sunny and hot. i un-zipped them. perfect shorts, didn't have to take off my slim golf shoes (no spikes). an hour later a cold front came in and i zipped the legs back on. my golf partner and i were laughing. great product.

I live and hike in the Colorado mountains and have been caught in rain, graupel and snow even when there is no precipitation in the forecast. These pants are comfortable and stretch, easily converted to shorts, but give me another layer of protection when weather rolls in unexpectedly.

How big are these in the thighs? I have a little larger thighs. Looking for measurement for the zipper.

What’s the rise?

Hey Ann! I reached out to our connections with OR and got this information about the rise for these pants. They are considered to have a standard rise: 9 ¾” front rise 13 ¾” back rise. I took the men's Ferossi's out backpacking over the weekend in Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument and absolutely love them, so let me know if you have more question about them I can help with. They breath like a dream!
