    Ferrosi Convertible Pant

Fewer pants excel in the shoulder season like the Ferrosi Convertible Pant from Outdoor Research. You can feel confident pushing peaks into late October even if a freak rainstorm hits and soaks you to the bone-within the hour you'll be dry and moving quickly to your objective. Not only do they wick away moisture, but once things heat up they stay true to their name and you can switch from pants to shorts as fast as you can say Ferrosi.

For those who like to get directly vertical on limestone faces or granite slabs, the convertible Ferrosi's are reinforced in key wear areas for long days in a harness and offer movement-mirroring stretch for those tricky technical moves and high steps.

    • Convertible pant for unpredictable shoulder season weather
    • Movement-mirroring stretch for technical trails or climbs
    • Reinforced key wear areas for more time spent adventuring
    • Waist loops keep pants tight after days of use on the trail
    • Material composition provides stretch and abrasion protection
    • From the best-selling technical Ferrosi line

    Super Functional

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 30x32
    • Height: 6'0"
    • Weight: 140lbs

I wore these pants on the PCT and they work great. Loved having the ability to make them shorts. While Thru-hiking the more purposes you can get out of one item the better it is. Being able to wear these on chilly morning or on exposed ridge lines whens its really wind, and then being able to convert them into shorts when it gets hot or you have to cross a ragging river was key. They are also some of the most comfortable pants I've ever worn, I often call them my pajamas because they're that comfortable! They do really well as a wind breaker and with the DWR finish they defend against light rain and snow. Which was super helpful this year on the PCT as we got a lot of rain and it was a 200% snow year in the Sierras. Overall these are rad pants and will be using them on more backpacking and alpine climbing trips.

    Awesomepants

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 30x32

I bought these pants new and wore them for a week straight on a trip in the High Sierra backcountry. These pants are great, they're so lightweight you barely feel that they're on! Also, the DWR is very water resistant, I can be in a light rain shower or have water splashed on me and the pants still feel dry. In the Sierras with their short rain showers, you won't need to switch to rain pants since these pants already dry so quickly. Next, the material is very durable. I was sitting on sharp rocks all the time and rubbing my butt against them, and there doesn't seem to be any marking on the fabric.
Some other things: the fabric is a bit stretchy so be sure to order your actual waist size so they'll fit better. Also they're zip-off pants but the pant legs don't have side-zips, so if you wear boots you'll need to remove them to undo the legs (not an issue with trailrunners though). Note that there are elastic pulls at the pant bottoms you can also just give them a tug and wear the zip-off portions like they're gaiters.

In short, the pants are light, fast-drying, and durable. Not much to dislike about them! I'd take them bouldering in a heartbeat.

    Amazing pants!

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
    • Fit: True to size

I got these as a gift for my dad and the second he put these one and moved around in them, felt how they stretch and how light weight they are, he can't wait to hike in them in Norway.
