I Wanted to Like This Coat, But...

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: Small
    • Height: 5'2"
    • Weight: 115lbs

I wanted to feel this coat is "the one" but unfortunately, that was not to be. I'm 5'2" and about 115 lbs and the coat had a strange fit: very big in the shoulders, narrowing down to snug/form-fitted in the hips - a triangle shape. The sleeves were big and bulky, and the color was substantially lighter than in the photo, a grey of sorts; and the coat is more of a parka (and I'm short!), it did not extend to above the knee, but was more like a mid-thigh length which is different from how it is presented. After I tried it on, I returned it. In terms of function, it did seem very warm and well made.

    Lots of pros

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Large
    • Height: 5'9"
    • Weight: 150lbs

First, props to the customer service people at Back Country (BC). My husband, bless his heart, attempted to pick out a coat for me for Christmas. BC made the return process easy and had the new coat shipped to us in two days.

Things I love about this coat 1)the length: it hits me mid-thigh, just as advertised which I appreciate as a taller person 2)the color: I chose the blue violet and it is such a nice shade 3)lack of bulkiness: we live in southern Indiana and I rarely need a heavy coat. That being said, when worn with a sweater vs a t-shirt I have been very comfortable outdoors in the 20s and now teens (0 with windchill). I haven’t had any trouble with the zipper. Another feature that appealed to me is the removable faux fur on the hood, but I have yet to try that out. Anyway, initial impressions after wearing for a solid week are good.

    Flattering, nice details, warm

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 5'8"
    • Weight: 135lbs

Writing from North Idaho where winters are long. I needed a warm jacket that is water resistant for the shoulder seasons. I think this parka will serve me not just in late fall/early spring when it's in the 30s and raining but also in the deep of winter. I ordered the Pinot. It's a gorgeous, deep plum. I think it would look great in any color. I am 5'8'', 135 lbs, 36 in the chest, and the proportions are perfect on me in M. There's room up top for a sweater, and yet it contours the body all the way to the mid-thigh. Very flattering. Definitely a keeper.

Beautiful but a couple of negatives

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Small
    • Height: 5'3"
    • Weight: 112lbs

This coat is gorgeous in the Pinot color! Especially if you look good in jewel tones. In the end, it ended up not fitting quite right and it was not the warmest coat I tried (I ended up with the Down With It Parka).
I liked how this coat had extra pockets, the hem is lower in the back (more bum coverage), the exterior has a nice texture, it has lined pockets, really nice-looking elbow "patches" and a slimming double stitch.
However I found the sleeves too long (I am petite, so I am used to this, but they were even longer than most coats). The bust area was very large (I am 32B so again used to this, but this one was quite generous). The cuffs were too tight. Something a tailor could have fixed.
In the end, I am a skinny whimp when the temps drop below 25F and the weight and loft of this coat would not do for coldest west Michigan days. If it weren't for that, I would've chosen this coat because it is so flattering and well designed.

    Great coat, BAD zipper

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 5'6"
    • Weight: 130lbs

First, this is a lovely coat. Great, flattering fit, sleeves long enough for my very long arms, room enough across the shoulders to accomodate women with some muscle. Loved the pewter color. If it weren't for the cheap, plastic, barely functional zipper, I would have kept it. Very difficult to get the zipper to catch. Takes multiple tries each time, and gets so frustrating. I don't always have 5-10 minutes to spend on zipping my coat before I leave the house.

I am 5'6", thin, athletic 130lbs, very long arms and muscular shoulders. Medium was the perfect fit for me. I wear size small or 2-4 in most clothing, so I am going to say this runs small, since the Medium was definitely form-fitting on me.

Oh Eileen, I am so sorry! I have used this jacket several times and have not had that issue... which makes me think you received a defective zipper. Please know that if anything is ever wrong with an OR piece, if you are ever unhappy, we have an Infinite Guaranty, and will happily replace it!

Something to know for next time. Thank you for writing!

What a great Parka! The fit is as true to size as they come. I have just enough room in the parka to wear a sweater or jacket underneath, however I rarely need to because it SUPER WARM and breathes well indoors. I stay as warm as I like outdoors, and the faux fur hood adds an extra level of heat on really cold days. It's just the right length, long enough to cover my back-side, but still allows an above knee length dress to peek out. It has wrist cuffs to keep extra wind from blowing into the jacket from the sleeve, and the media pocket on the left side is great for your phone, id, or ski pass! Plus one for the Pertex Endurance out layer, that is pretty dang water resistant in the snow and rain. A must have for winter, especially if you need something to cruise around in on a windy/blustery downtown night!
