Instep buckle installed backwards

I've always been a fan of the OR Expedition Crocodiles Gaiters. Wear them off trail in some pretty nasty conditions and they hold up well. Ordered a new pair and sized up to accommodate my bulkier pac boots. When I went to fit the gaiter to my boots found one of the buckle prongs for the instep strap was installed backwards. The prong does not lay flat like it's designed to. Maybe a minor inspection issue but sort of a PITA now to adjust the strap fit in the field with gloves. The prong also sticks up rather than laying flat against the buckle making it more susceptible to damage on brush and rock.

Sizing seems just right

Disclaimer: I haven't had a chance to use the gaiters, they just arrived a couple of days ago. This review is for people concerned about sizing. I plan to wear the gaiters (size L) with size 10 (US Men) low-profile, lightly-insulated mountaineering boots. Having tried them on, they fit the boot perfectly. On the other end, the top of the gaiters (wrapping around above my calves) could also be tightened significantly to fit comfortably/stably around my smaller-than-average legs. However, the size L gaiters would be far too large for "ordinary" size 10 shoes. I suspect this is where all of the reviews about the gaiters being too big come from.

Best gaiters on the market

These gaiters stand up to serious abuse. They're the industry standard in my opinion.

Worked fine for WA mud and snow

I've only had these out on two long day snow scrambles. Both scrambles were muddy in the low elevations and snowy up in the upper elevations. These gaiters kept me dry and the mud and snow out of my boots and away from my lower pant legs (just below the knee to the cuff). They were easy on and off, nothing weird or difficult. Haven't had them long enough for a long term durability opinion.

Primo

Had some Yukon gaiters where the strap ripped and got these to replace them. No problems so far, and my feet are warm and dry.

Best gaitors ever

I'm an arborist in Alaska, and I bought these for working in the winter. The quality and durability of these are obvious. I wear them with scarpa mountaineering boots and a large fits perfect. Very happy with my purchase.

Bomber

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Used the Expedition gaiters a few times ice climbing, so far no rips! Had a set of standard crocodile gaiters and seemed to cut them above the reinforced ankle patch, hoping the larger reinforcement prevents that issue.

You Get What You Pay For

So I've been using these for SAR missions/training in the PNW for the past two years now. Stop thinking about it and buy them, totally worth it. I use these regardless of my footwear. They are designed to be worn with larger mountaineering boots and will fit best with a 4-season type boot. Don't let that dissuade you, I've worn these in all conditions with regular hiking boots, old clunky plastics and bougie high-tech slim mountaineering boots. They have never failed me, even when I thought the fit would cause failure (slim hiking boots worn in 3-4 feet of snow.) I have nothing but positive things to say. If you're looking for a bomber all-purpose gaiter then you've found it. Don't even bother with other companies, OR Research is next level with their gaiters. Buy once and cry once.

Excellent except for design flaw.

Sadly, these otherwise excellent gaiters have a bad design flaw: The front hook to attach the gaiters to the boot is too wide to fit the D ring on my insulated boot. Consequently, I cannot hook them. I have not had this problem with any of my other gaiters. Sizing: I got size XL because XL is supposed to fit up to size 13. I'm a large guy with big calves and wear size 14 boots and the insulated boots that I use when snowshoeing are quite large. I worried that they would be too small. However, they are a bit too big. Maybe I could have gotten a large.
