Odd fit...

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] As reviewed, tighter fit around the thigh which was perfect for me. However, the waist was at least an inch too big. Pants look and feel great, but sizing is just off...

I love these pants!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I don't know why OR is discontinuing these pants... they are the best convertible pants I've ever owned. I like how the zipper is higher above the knee unlike others I've had in the past where the zipper rubs on your knees creating discomfort. If you can still find some of these pants buy them! You won't be disappointed.

Love the product

Two things. The volume of the upper thigh area is a bit tight. My thighs just barely fit and it means the pants bunch up occasionally. Second, the drawstring is too short.

The best convertible pants I have ever owned

I love these pants. The design of the zip-off legs is different than all the others I have seen. When you are wearing them as shorts, they don't feel like convertible pants that end in a zippered hem. When you take off your boots, the legs zip open AND the fabric is stretchy! I love the pocket on the thigh, it is zippered and holds a cell phone handily. The pockets on the pants are large enough to hold a map as you hike down the trail. I love it. Down sides? Yes a couple. The zippers on the legs could be color coded or have something that lets you know which leg goes to which zipper. The drawstring in the pants (I tend to lose weight hiking) was really short and hard to tie. That's all. Buy these convertibles if you want something better. I plan on buying another. I wore these pants backpacking in the Wind River Range for 8 days in August.

Great, except...

I love the weight and fit of these for summer field work and hiking. The issue I've had with all of the equinox pants is that the threads on the back pockets comes out after the first couple washes. I've owned 5 pairs of equinox pants in different iterations and that has happened on 3 of them. The most that's in my pocket if my wallet and maybe phone.

waistband snap button

I have two pairs of these - waist 34 and waist 35. The snap button on the 34 waist simply does not work. If it weren't for the waist tie string, the pants would be unusable. Other than that, they're great pants, durable and the zippers for the legs have held up.

1st non-dorky convertibles in history

These are now my go to for 3 season hiking/mountaineering (usually configured as shorts). I have a pet peeve about shorts: I despise bulky, baggy shorts. Unless you're buying a European brand, almost all casual and outdoor shorts from US outdoor brands these days have huge leg openings at the knee. I have relatively large, muscular legs from lifting, but most shorts still look ridiculous on me (and most other guys too) because of the bulky cut and flared openings at the knees. These pants from OR fit perfectly and fall about 2" above my knee when zipped off as shorts. I'm 5'8" tall, 31-32 waist, 23" quads and the 31x32 fit perfectly: not tight, not baggy. More positives: - They're very stretchy and allow unrestricted movement for climbing, bouldering, etc. - Brilliant zipper placement means no one will know these are convertible pants. I've been wearing these around with my wife for months. She just thinks they're hiking shorts and still has not noticed that they're convertible pants. Most convertible pants with bulky, obvious zippers look like they should put you in contention for outdoor dork of the year. Not so with these. - Spot on, very high quality construction and very durable - Very nice, light-ish weight for 3 season use All in all an excellent option for most outdoor/athletic guys with slim/normal/muscular, but not bulky builds. If you're a bulkier lifter or someone with a more endomorph build, these may not offer enough room. Hope this review is helpful.

Not for guys with tree trunk thighs

I was excited for a new pair of convertible pants after my previous ones from another brand finally wore out after 2 seasons. One of the first things I noticed when I put these on and took the legs off to wear as shorts was how tight the zipper is around my thighs. I'm 5'11", 215 lbs, grew up wrestling and playing football, and now I mainly spend my time outside hiking and playing disc golf. I'm always looking for pants that are durable, lightweight, and breathable and these pants hit all those points but came up short due to my tree trunk thighs. Maybe the shorts or pants by themselves might be a better fit but the zipper around the legs just feels too constricting. There is another thing I didn't like, while moving around testing out the comfortability of the pants while moving I heard a seam pop while squatting. I inspected the pants and couldn't find anything noticeable but I don't like that a pair of pants I wore for only a couple of hours might already have a defect that I cant see. As comfortable as these pants could have been I do also wish the back pockets had a button or zipper, and the cargo pocket over the front pocket could be a little lower too. I feel like if I had anything in both pockets it would just be a huge bulge.
