Why We Like The Direct Route II Glove

Checking off our tick list at the crag with our partner requires lots of belaying, rappelling, and general rope management. Thankfully, the Direct Route II Glove prevents rope burn when lowering our partner and keeps our fingers warm as we stand in the shade. Its leather design and breathable mesh combine dexterity with durability for a multi-season solution.

Excellent gloves for professionals

These gloves are being used on the FEMA special operations team by one of the members!

Best belay gloves

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is my second pair after wearing out the first over many years of regular climbing. Best fit, grip, and comfort and the fabric back keeps hands cooler on hot days. My whole crew uses and loves these gloves

Fantastic Glove

This glove is excellent for long narrow hands and have a slim fit. Following the size guide is recommended before purchasing. If you have a wide palm or hand then I recommend sizing up. Personally, I have always had problems with other gloves snagging in carabiners due to bulk and extra fabric (Petzl), but I happily do not have this issue while using these gloves. Great for technical rescue.

Light+Comfortable

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

A flexible lightweight glove that is not too hot to wear in the summer. Personal favorite belay glove.

Not an improvement over the previous version

Major changes include removing the breathable holes, changing of the velcro location and quality. The new materials feel thinner than my old worn out versions. The Fingers themselves are way narrower and the stitching doesn't line up, so the finger tips take a lot of fiddling with to get to be in the right spots. If you're used to how OR gloves fit, size up from what you usually wear. If you're looking for a rappelling glove, keep looking

I can't believe I haven't found these sooner!

I've really been liking these gloves. They've been a replacement for my original favorite gloves, the Splitter Work Glove, which I don't think are made anymore. The Direct Route II are definitely a snug fit but, as a result, are highly dexterous (great for cold weather rock climbing, belaying, and rappelling). I don't consider these a 'warm' glove as described, rather a summer glove that I can wear in summer temperatures.

Great design, runs really small

I really like the design and execution of these gloves. But. I've used a pair of these for several years for SAR work. I had bought size 8 (M) for dexterity, but they're just a bit too small, so this time I bought size 9 (L). They're even smaller! I can barely get them on my hand and the fingers are too long. I wish OR could figure out consistent glove sizing - across models and across years. So beware - try them on or expect to return them to figure out your size.
