That special core warmth.
The Outdoor Research Men's Deviator Hooded Vest is a lightweight insulator with that special touch of core warmth you crave on cold climbs and colder skintracks. Unlike most insulators, Polartec Alpha boasts incredible breathability levels that permeates air circulation the moment you put the vest on. The result is a less clammy experience when you've worked up a sweat. Since you're going to sweat no matter what, Outdoor Research lined the Deviator in Polartec Power Grid fleece for enhanced moisture management and quick-drying comfort.

I seem to always be hot, except for the last 2-3 years. Living in colder, windier climates (near Chicago) I've had a hard time finding good clothing to keep me warm without swesting or having 3" of layers on. I really enjoy the vibrant red, how thin and lightweight this piece is, and the stretch and movement it affords.
I've only been able to use this vest 3 times in Colorado and Wyoming just 2 weeks ago. In Colorado it was mostly sunny, slightly windy, and the temp was in the 30's. I wore this over a thin Merino wool long sleeve and was just right all day. I walked around a ski town, hiked, climbed a small peak, and felt comfortable, never getting cold or sweating.
I'd like to get more wear to better determine my review. However, so far I am pleased.

I run hot. 20 degrees? I might be found in shorts. However, when the winds start blowing and the weather turns foul, I look for a piece that can keep my temperature regulated without overheating.
The Deviator has been perfect for my winter running this season. Having just enough of the highly breathable Polartec Alpha up front with a fleece backdo dump excess heat, I can run comfortably in the teens with only a baselayer underneath. Bonus points for the hood that can easily take the place of a balaclava.
You might not be so comfortable in the cold as I am, but if you need a piece to keep your core warm and regulated while moving then this vest might be for you.
