A softshell hoodie hybrid.

The Outdoor Research Men's Deadbolt Hooded Softshell Jacket feels like your favorite hoodie and protects you from winter in ways your hoodie never could. A Ventia laminate equips this jacket with extreme resistance to wind and water. The laminate also provides extreme breathability so you can wear it indoors, and the soft fleece lining wicks moisture in case you get too warm. There are drawcords at the hood and hem for reliable coverage, and the internal gasket knit cuffs seal around you wrists for better comfort.

Nice softshell

What a sweet jacket. Haven't worn it out in the CO winter yet, but looks like it will be perfect for all but the coldest puffy coat days. I bought the grey and it definitely is lighter then the pick. I like it a lot better then the pic anyway. I'm 5'9" and 160lbs. Mine is large and fits great. I usually wear medium in most jackets so you may want to size up.

    Awesome compromise

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 5'8"
    • Weight: 170lbs

There is no perfect quiver replacement jacket. That being said the deadbolt comes really close for me. I have put close 500 days of use into my first one. From cruising around the Highlands in Denver, walking my daughter to school, skiing at A basin, back country touring and super unpleasant hail mixed with rain doing environmental surveying on Wolf Creek Pass and the surrounding South San Juans. The Jacket handles nearly everything. OK really 8 hours of Mixed rain and hail on a motorcycle leads to hypothermia but.... We are talking about a jacket not my stupidity. I would highly recommend it for a moderately priced piece of gear that you aren't afraid to beat on and head out to dinner in.

    Perfect Casual Softshell

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size

Just received this jacket and I am impressed. For the last 6 years I have worn my old Outdoor Research technical softshell to work and on the mountain as my main snowboarding shell. While that softshell is still going strong, its doesnt look as nice as it used to. So I got the Deadbolt to wear to work and around town. A few things

    1. I ordered the Charcoal, and its a bit lighter in color than the photo here. I really like it. Its that

Chris, tell me more!! I think this is a great guys casual soft shell - waterproof fabric, just not seam taped, which keeps the price down - you are good unless you are standing in a downpour for a while!

Enjoy this piece - it is a handsome jacket and wonderful casual and technical!

    Great, minus the collar

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 5'11"
    • Weight: 165lbs

I was in need for a casual jacket that is suitable for Seattle winters - cold but not freezing, windy, and of course, rainy. This OR jacket caught my eye because it boasted technical features without looking overly technical. It works well as a work jacket and going around town in. My first impression was how weather-resistant it is. It sheds light to moderate rain no problem, and the wind doesn't bite through like on other softshells. The hood is fantastic and is easily adjustable. The cuff design is also top notch. The fleece is super comfortable when I wear a t-shirt underneath. A medium fits me great; wide enough in the shoulders and not too boxy in the love handle region. My only complaint is the collar. It is at an awkward height where it scratches the bottom of my chin when I turn my head, and is not big enough to fold down and crease. I'd prefer the collar was taller so it would cover my mouth when the weather got fierce, or so I could fold it down out of the way. Other than that, this jacket makes for a near perfect casual fall/winter stand-alone layer.

Hey Steve - Thank you for taking the time to write! The jacket is awesome, and I do like your thoughts about the collar. I will be sure to mention it to our designers. I know that a lot of folks like it the way it is, but it might be just that much better with a taller collar!

    Thank you again,
