Sizing issues

I don't understand why companies seem to have issues making snowpants that fit. I know my size in regular pants, but for some reason I keep coming across snowpants that are way too long or way too small in the waist. Now the length is mostly my fault because I'm 5'2, but the waist is something else. Bought a large which was actually a little generous considering what I normally buy and although the legs fit nice i couldn't even get the pants up past my butt nevermind up all the way to button. And if I go large enough for the waist I'm basically swimming in the legs. Incredibly irritating. When oh when will companies figure out the whole flexible waistband thing, such a pain! 🤷‍♀️

I agree with other reviews on these pants. I loved how they were made. I wanted to keep them so bad! Great style, high quality, nice shape for a woman with curves. I am 5'4", 140 lbs and curvy hips/butt. I'm usually an 8 in pants or a medium. I ordered both the medium and large in these. The Medium ALLLMOST fits. They were tight. Too tight to wear with any base layer underneath for sure. I'd say this medium fits like a size 6. But then the Large was GIGANTIC. There was no way to keep them. Not just big but longer too. They fit like a size 12-14 probably. I would get these pants immediately if I were a size 6 or a size 12. But they are no good for anyone who is a size 8-10.

Trust me they don't fit a size 12, at least not the pair I got. Im between a ten and a 12 and the large pair I got couldn't even get up over my butt 😂 soi there's clearly some issues in size and consistency in sizing here. Annoying!

Im 5'8 130 pounds and athletic/narrow in the hips. The small was too big by many inches all around, more like a medium, so I ordered the extra small, thinking it would be "just right" ...and it is TINY, like, can barely get over my hips and snap the waist. I want and need these pants, how can the sizing be so off? It seems I have no choice but to return and do without

Hey Allyson--Is it possible we sent you the wrong size of pant instead of a small by mistake? These usually come in pretty standard sizing. I haven't seen any similar complaints about them before and we have a few demo pairs at Backcountry that I've checked out for friends based on their usual sizes. I'll reach out to you via email to see what we can do.

I bought these about a year ago and have to prevent myself from wearing them TOO often, because they're so comfortable! I have pretty strong athletic legs and am typically a 2-6 depending on brands (crazy!). I was looking for something that would hold up well, have good construction, and be flexible and breathable. Most importantly, I wanted my strong quads and substantial booty to fit without low waistband issues I sometimes have with brands like Prana. This pant fit the bill! The construction was great and the materials are hardy! Flexible in material AND waist size -- with a velcro adjustable strap -- they fit my smaller waist and stronger legs. I take these ski touring, hiking, and even ice climbing this past weekend. I accidentally caught my crampon on the leg TWICE and they DIDN'T RIP! Crazy :) Love these pants!

Recently took these on an 8 day winter trip on mount rainier. These were super comfortable. We encountered it all, rain, snow, cold, and warm in he sun and these pants were great, dry quickly, easy to layer under and over. I also really liked the zippered pockets, kept my phone in the one lower on the thigh, easy to reach especially with a heavy pack on without having to unbuckle the hip belt. I also felt secure keeping my ID in a pocket since it zippered. I highly recommend!

These pants are awesome. They are warm, breathable, versatile, and resistant to water. BUT I wish they came in more sizes. I usually wear a size 6, but the medium is too loose with too long of legs and the small is too tight. Very aggravating. If this came in specific sizes (2, 4, 6, etc.), I would have given it 5 stars. *sigh*

I love these pants! They are super stretchy, comfortable, and durable and you can wear them for long days in the mountains! I wore them for a weeklong alpine climbing trip and they didn't disappoint! I also wear them for winter or cold hiking, as well as skinning. If you are looking for a great winter/spring hiking pant, look no further!

Thank you Amy! The Cirque is a great pant and I love its versatility. Glad you are using them to their full potential! Leta OR Rep

I love these pants. Got them for backcountry and uphill skinning. Great when you are moving but cold when stopped (as expected). I also run cold. My boyfriend has the same ones in the mens and he loves them. Also good for XC skiing too. I love the tabs on the sides which allow the correct fitting around my waist. I often have the problem in womens outdoor gear with bad sizing for athletic women. This feature solves that issue. I am 5

A great review Nat! And very accurate. Perfect when moving, and colder when stopped. Still, an excellent choice for BC skiing. Enjoy your turns! Leta OR Rep

Wierd Sizing

Familiarity:

These are great pants, but the sizing is off. Based on reviews I ordered the medium. I'm 5'5', 128 lbs and athletic. The medium was huge even with my thermal weight tights on underneath. So, I ordered the small. They fit trim like pants with little room in the waist to comfortable wear any weight thermal. How there is such a size discrepancy between the two sizes is baffling to me. I generally wear a size 4 and am confused why neither of these fit. So, back they both go.

Hi Rebecca, Thank you for this. I have not heard that feedback, but will pass it on to OR. Thank you for helping to make us better, and I am sorry they did not work for you - Leta OR Rep

I ordered these pants for winter training in prep for an alpine expedition this summer. I had them with me for a mountain hike in the snow and they kept me toasty warm and dry. Our next stop on the same trip was the CA central coast. I wore them on a 55 degree day hike and they were so breathable that I didn't overheat. I'm 5'3, 117 lbs with a small waist. I have trouble finding pants that fit my behind and thighs without gapping at the waist. The adjustable waist tabs on these pants provided a perfect fit in size small.

Thanks Lori - so glad you love them! Leta OR Rep

Nice stretchy pants

I'm 5'5' 135lb and usually wear medium. So I ordered medium and it's perfect. Very comfortable and gives me a good range of motion. There's enough room for one thick layer for me. Not waterproof but it kept me dry when I used for snowshoeing.

Hi Kaori, Thank you for the review - the Cirque pants are among our best selling pants for winter activity. Glad you mentioned not waterproof... if we did that, they wouldn't be as breathable as they are for cold weather activity! Enjoy your adventures! Leta OR Rep

Amazing fit for a curvy figure, sits high enough on my waist to feel secure & comfortable. my only complaint is the stiffness of the bottom of the leg, but I think that will be a non-issue with hiking /snow boots on. Super well-made, definitely quality for the price. I'm 5'2

Thanks for the great review! The stiffness is due to the scuff guard, which is so important for skis! Enjoy your adventures with the Cirque! Leta OR Rep

Great pants

I bought these as a gift for my girlfriend. I have the mens version and I think they are the best soft shell pants around. She ordered the xs (her usual size) and ended up returning them for a s so that she could fit base layers underneath.

Great feedback, thank you! Leta OR Rep

I ordered XS and S for my upcoming Mt. Rainier climb. Size XS was way too small but the S fit perfectly (I am 5'7" and weight about 135lb. The pants are fantastic, they are warm and very durable . I plan on taking them with me to climb Mt. Denali next year.

Thanks for the reviews Anna! Super helpful to get this feedback out to the community.

Hope your climb was successful.

I have used these snowshoeing and absolutely love them. I did wear a heavy base layer for warmth. These pants are very comfortable with the stretch fabric. The adjustable waistband is great. While they are not completely waterproof, they are resistant enough to have kept me dry. Highly recommend.

Thank you for taking the time to write, Rebecca. These pants are among our best for women's technical pants, especially for active use like backcountry skiing and snowshoing. Enjoy! Leta OR Rep

XYZ

I love these pants. They have held up to three years of dog sledding abuse. The pants have sustained a few holes in the fabric over time but considering that they have been exposed to millions of sharp dog nails, real nails and snow hooks I am impressed. The holes also do not grow over time which is great as well. They are more waterproof than many of my rain pants and dry much faster. The only negative comment I have towards these pants is the zipper fly. It splits at the bottom and is always coming open even with the zipper is fully up. I have had the zipper replaced once with a heavier zipper and the same problem arises. My boyfriend also ownes these pants and has the same problem so I know it's not just me and my pair. Other than the zipper issues I practically live in these pants all year long.

Ibionna, Thank you for taking the time to write. I just sent this feedback to OR so they might be able to address it for future generations. The pant is awesome, I agree! Super durable and weather resistant! Thanks again, Leta

as a paradoxical outdoorsy girl and skinny jeans-wearer, i'm always on a quest to find pants that perform well and are flattering/slim fit. these are a pretty good match. i wear these in an xs, but if i wanted a more relaxed fit, the s would probably work well. i'm perfectly comfortable in the xs, but wouldn't be able to fit a very thick baselayer underneath. they are perfect for snow days with my icebreaker midweight base layer. for my wildnerness first responder class, i had to lay in the snow for an extended period of time as a "patient." these kept me warm and dry, even while laying sedentary in fresh snow. the bottom of the pant is slightly tight around my snowboard boots, but the zippers make them easy to get on. i docked one star because i did have a zipper fail on my first pair and had to exchange them.

Do these pants have boot gaiters?

They don't have an internal gaiter, like some ski pants have. However, the cuffs do have grommets where you can attach a cord and create makeshift gaiters.

Kristin, if you would like a similar pant with an internal gaiter, look at the Trailbreaker. Otherwise, great solution, Jennifer!

Are these fleece lined or lined at all? ...

Are these fleece lined or lined at all? Just wondering what the interior fabric is.

Hey, The inside of the waistband is microfiber but other than that these are not lined so that they can breathe more effectively. Hope that helps.

They aren't like some pants where the inside feels exactly like the outside. There's some kind of fuzzy twill on the inside for warmth, but it isn't really fleece or very thick. It appears to still breath well.
