    Aspire Pant

Outdoor Research Women's Aspire Pants were designed with three things in mind: light weight, storm protection, and packability. Ideal for hiking year-round, the Aspire Pants are made with guaranteed waterproof Gore-Tex Paclite fabric for total protection and amazing packability, so you can just keep them in your pack until a storm hits or the trail gets chilly. When you've got them on, the articulated knees and gusseted crotch keep you moving through whatever terrain you find yourself on and the elastic waist with drawcord keeps them in place.

    • Waterproof pants for weather protection on the trail
    • Gore-Tex Paclite is waterproof, windproof, and packable
    • Fully seam sealed for addition water protection in downpours
    • Articulated knees offer freedom of movement on the trail
    • Gusseted crotch enhances mobility when tackling scrambles
    • Elastic waist with drawcord provides a custom, snug fit

    Does a good job

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: Small
    • Height: 5'5"
    • Weight: 130lbs

I likes the waterproofing on these, but make sure you dry them out after they get wet, mine accidentally sunk to the bottom of our raft below the dry bags without me realizing and they wetted out pretty badly. I also got a size small and they were HUGE! But they did do a great job on keeping my legs dry while getting splashed by rapids, and they were comfy.

    Not scaled for shorter women

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 5'2"

I knew I was taking a risk on the length and indeed these pants are dragging (I'm 5'2). The top half fits well over a base layer. The legs from the knee down are voluminous and no ability to cinch the ankle tighter. They may work well over a downhill ski boot but they are too much for my typical use of all seasons hiking, cross country skiing or snow shoeing. I'm going to check out the Patagonia Torrentshell because it comes in a short length, even though the pant is not as highly rated. Wish more things came in petite!

    I wanted to like these!

    • Fit: Runs small

    • Height: 5'4"

I read a few other reviews about the weird fit, but also read reviews about the love for the Aspire pant. For me the weird fit won, and I'm returning them. The feel of the fabric is great and the leg zipper is good. However, to fit correctly they came over my belly button, since the 1980's I've done away with the high waist and it's just not comfortable for me. The legs are also wide and the length is short (and I'm 5'4"). The articulated knees are good for movement, but this design is wider than it needs to be for me. I ordered a small, I'm normally a 0-2 in most brands, and these were snug at the waist with just a running short underneath. Overall, the fit was just weird and I couldn't justify the price for something I didn't love. I'm marking that it runs small for the waist and the length, but I think it runs big in the width of the legs.

    Good to start with but...

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I was stoked when I first got these pants. The first half dozen times I wore them, they kept me dry. After wearing them in a downpour in cool conditions, I noticed some moisture on the inside of the pants.

    rain worthy

I bought these pants for a white water rafting trip. I knew I could be sitting on water for many hours. The result, I will be buying a dry suit for next year. That said, if you are looking for water resistant pants for hiking, climbing or any activity in which you are NOT sitting in water you'll be VERY happy with these pants. It took about 2 hours of sitting in water before my booty got wet. The side leg zipper made changing with my shoes on a cinch.
