Why We Like The Aspire Jacket

Light on weight, completely waterproof, and perfectly packable, the Outdoor Research Aspire Jacket shows us there's no reason not to toss it into our pack for any and all adventures. Designed with GORE-TEX Paclite technology, this lightweight shell delivers total waterproof protection without the bulk, and now features a more environmentally friendly DWR (Durable Water Repellent) that's free of PFCs.

Lightweight

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
Size Bought:
Medium

I am usually a small but got the medium. This gives room for a fleece underneath. Very lightweight! Not too noisy. Nice poncho option with the full zippers under the arms. Haven’t tried it in a hard rain yet

Overall Great Product

Originally, I had the first Aspire jacket and had that for around 6 years. It held up great and was amazing quality. I did re-waterproof it once after 5 years of use and it turned it back to brand new. However, one of the zippers fell off on the side zips and I was unable to fix it. Therefore, it was unusable. I was able to utilize the warranty and received a new Aspire jacket. Seems to be good quality as well. However, I did notice that some of the small features that were on my original Aspire are no longer there. Which is a small disappointment as I believe those small features added to the overall appearance and quality. Regardless, I am still very happy with my purchase and would recommend this jacket!

Not waterproof

I was soaked through. Very nice jacket but will not wear it hiking in wet weather.

NOT WATERPROOF

Like wearing a cotton T-shirt in the rain I was completely soaked through and through five minutes in the rain. Very disappointing.

Side zips are a GAME CHANGER

The best part of the jacket are the side zips, you can layer the puffiest down jacket you've got and the side zips give you adjustable room to layer as desired. Not only that, you can finally fasten that backpack hip belt directly around your waist without the cell phone in your jacket front pocket getting in your way. The same goes for car seatbelts! Best ever feature in a jacket, hands down.

Great Backcountry Jacket

Love this for the Backcountry... packs down, sheds snow and rain, love the color and works even on warm wet days to shed heat with the side zippers.

Love the material

Love this.. I could stand out in a downpoor and stay dry with this... Its also great if it's a bit warm and rainy because the sides zip down... So it's breathable..

Not entirely waterproof

I bought this for a two week trip to Scotland. I love the fit (Xl - 5'4 180lbs) and the color (elk) but unfortunately it didn't hold up in the Scottish islands' special blend of wind and rain. During one hike, the weather got a bit nasty where the rain was coming at us sideways and I got drenched pretty quickly. It was fine for other types of rain though (fyi I haven't tried it in heavy rain for more than a few mins). The jacket dries quickly, packs small, feels durable, and is slightly less "swooshy" than others I tried. Its great for most situations, but failed when I really needed the protection.
