Why We Like The Alti Mitten

The Alti Mitten is the warmest and most versatile modular mitt that Outdoor Research has to offer. This mitten features a waterproof, breathable GORE-TEX shell and lofty synthetic insulation, making it essential for bagging snow-covered peaks, Arctic adventures, and seriously cold endeavors. Pittards leather palm provides a reliable grip on ice tools, ski poles, tent poles, or anything else we work with on the mountain, and it's far more durable than any synthetic.

Dysfunctional

After 2 yrs of frustration and misery, I've grown to despise these overpriced mitts and wish I never bought them or had returned them straight away. There's NO insulation on the palms in either shell or liner and the hands, fingers, thumbs all freeze solid below 15, even with a an additional fleece liner. A hand warmer isn't enough and an added expense to an already expensive glove. The liner mitt ripped after a couple months, used gorilla tape to patch. Now the shell is fraying in several areas and are taped too. There is no dexterity with these, either the shell or liner. Difficult to do anything, even holding my poles is a challenge. The only quality aspect is the leather palm. I hate these mitts!!!

BEST snowboarding mitts EVER

I LOVE the mountains and snow but I have raynauds and my fingers and toes freeze. These gloves are so warm and work so well that half the time I don't even need hand warmers. Yes they are thick and bulky so you can't make a perfect snowball wearing these. But snowboarding these are perfection.

super warm!

I bought these for backcountry and resort skiing and they are the best! I've always had numb hands and feet while skiing, and after getting frostbite in my feet, I had to be better about keeping myself warm. These mittens are bulky but absolutely worth it. I've never had cold hands while wearing these, and I never have to worry. Worth the money and bulk if you are chronically freezing!

Worth every penny and than some!!!

Wore these out snowmobiling. Absolutely amazing. I knew exactly where the mitts ended as I could feel the wind right through my snowmobile jacket but nothing through the gloves!! I am ordering a second pair immediately. I can't wait to get more use out of them. Canadian winters are cold and these are great.

Very warm Mitts!

I have Raynaud's and I live in Manitoba where we have very cold winters, and these Mitts have made it possible for me to stay outside for a long period of time in - 35 C. They are very warm, and I love the two-layer function in case you're getting too warm which will happen with these Mitts. I love them!

Great mitts for very cold temps

My wife loves them for very cold days, especially to throw on when we're static. Also the liners can easily be swapped out with something lighter when you need a bit less heat retention

Buying more!

Over the years as a family we have collected a wide range of outdoor research mittens. We live in Northern Ontario (7 hours north of Toronto) and over this past week we have had weather between -30 to -40C. We refuse to let the weather or the cold keep up indoors! We snowboard, snowshoe, xc ski, hike and backpack in all the conditions. I bought these mitts for my partner for xmas and bought my son a new pair of Carbide sensor. The Alti are by far the warmest pair of mitts we have out of all! The Arcade are warm and less bulky but do not have an inner removal layer. After reading the reviews I was prepared to sacrifice the bulkiness for the warmth and wasn't disappointed! The inner shell is very warm and I imagine with time the fleece will compact and make the mitt larger, but I would rather have them a bit larger then to small because if they are to small you won't keep your hands warm. We haven't been able to do the true test of spending a day out snowboarding but I very confident these mitts won't disappoint! We are constantly exchanging mittens with my partner as the other pairs of OR mittens can't even compare to the warmth of these ones. I am ordering two more pairs for us to wear on those colder days! The lanyard that is attached is good to loop them around your wrist when your hands have finally warmed up. As I mentioned we have quite the collection of OR mittens and have found that you really need to buy the pair that will suit your needs. If you are just looking to keep your hands as warm as possible then these are the ones to go to, They will allow you to grip a pair of poles and you can fit a dog leash over them but if you are going to be required to pick up things or work outside then the meteor are a good option instead but not as warm. Enjoy the outdoors!!! See picture attached for just a few pairs of ours to compare sizes.

Alti mitts very bulky and not flexible

Unfortunately these woman mitts do not come in woman's size extra small so these are really too big for me to provide optimum warmth. They are very bulky and unflexible. Hard to do any activity while wearing them.
