Makes long treks on the trail more comfortable and easier.

The Osprey Women's Xena 70 Backpack handles large loads on extended trips and makes load-carrying comfort its top priority. A beefed-up version of the LightWire peripheral frame suspension creates the structure, while the women-specific BioForm CM hipbelt and harness provide a supportive and highly customizable fit during your week-long treks into America's scenic national parks.

    • LightWire peripheral frame effectively transfers load weight to the hip-belt
    • Reversed spacer-mesh back panel offers a smooth, breathable contact surface while a single 6061-T6 center stay maintains back panel shape
    • BioForm CM hipbelt balances firmness and cushioning for optimal carry while a BioForm harness with NeoSpacer fabric provides a comfortable fit
    • Women-specific pack design features a narrow pack shape with added depth in the right places
    • Women-specific shoulder harness consists of thoughtful angle changes and varying padding thickness to create an anatomical fit for a woman's neck, shoulders, and chest while a sternum strap equalizes the pressure across the shoulder harness
    • Women-specific hip-belt takes into account that a women's hips are more conically shaped with a larger difference between the waist and hip measurements, so you have more comfortable load transfer and optimal support
    • Xena 70 comfortably carries 55 pounds or a maximum weight of 70 pounds of your gear for a week-long trip in the backcountry or month-long trip backpacking in Australia
    • Top-loading for easy packing while curved side zips on each side of the pack provide wide, easy access to the main compartment
    • Wide-mouth access sleeping bag compartment with divider enables easy-access to your sleeping goods
    • Dual-compartment top pocket converts to a lumbar pack with built-in belt when you want to take short day hikes from camp
    • Strong, durable fabric and construction ensures a pack that lasts for years to come
    • External hydration sleeve in back panel simplifies refilling and protects pact contents from spills (hydration bladder not included)
    • Two roomy front pockets with coated zippers help keep often needed items handy while a stretch-mesh front pocket quickly stashes your extra gear
    • Zippered hip-belt pockets provide secure storage for your camera or phone while dual-access stretch mesh side pockets hold your water bottles
    • Removable sleeping pad straps, dual-side compression straps, two ice axe loops and handle wraps, and Stow-on-the-Go trekking pole attachment for convenience

    Great Pack

This is my first pack and I bought it for weekend backpacking excursions, but have also used it for travel and it's amazing. Osprey really pays attention to all the small details when designing these things.

The shoulder straps are really comfortable and I feel like it's the perfect size to fit everything you need for a weekend in the woods, without being too big.

      I LOVE it so far!

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I bought this because I needed a larger pack for longer trips and Osprey makes such great packs. I have only used it once but I absolutely love it so far. I'm 5'2.5" and the XS is perfect for me. The pack has so many great pockets and features that I can't see how they could improve this one. I love the front/side access to the main compartment although I think my Gregory pack does this feature better. I also love that the top that can be a fanny pack. (God forbid I ever actually wear it this way) The shoulder straps are comfortable and the hip belt is perfectly padded for comfort. There are straps all over this pack that help to compress everything in. The only thing I wish they included was a rain cover. My Mira pack came with one but this one does not. I already have an Osprey rigid back 3L reservoir from my Mira pack so I won't have a problem getting it in the pack as some other people noted they had trouble with. I love my rigid back Osprey bladder. Bottom line is that Osprey makes great products and this one is just that, great.

Osprey continues to make the best packs

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I am a big fan of Osprey packs so when looking for a pack for my 15 year old, I shopped the brands but ended up quickly back at Osprey. These guys make the best stuff out there. Very functional, lightweight, thoroughly conceived and putting the right materials in the right places, the Xena was everything I had expected. After a week of trekking through the Olympic National Park, she came home and was so happy how comfortable and "awesome" this pack was. While I don't have miles of experience with this particular pack, it's just like the other Osprey packs I own which are all 5 star. Get an Osprey pack and you will be stoked. The Xena is another amazing product from these guys.

You have got to get this one!

So for the twenty years or so that my husband and I have been backpacking, I have ALWAYS used my Dana Design pack. (I used either the Terraplane or Astroplane.) I cannot say enough great things about Dana Design packs. Call me old fashion, but I am a true Dana fan. But then last year's backpack trip proved to be tough and arduous. (Probably because I have gotten older!) Although the Dana packs are literally indestructible, the material is VERY heavy. I looked around at different stores and on-line for a new pack. I started checking out the Osprey packs and then tried some on. I instantly fell in love with the Osprey Xena 70 Backpack. The strapping system adjusted extremely well to allow for a "comfort" fit and the waist belt was unbelievable. The straps are so easy to grab and they are even easier to tighten and loosen. Even though the sales person told me they have a "special" machine to mold the waist belt to conform to my body/waist, I just started using it to hike and backpack. Within about two hiking trips, the waist belt formed naturally to my waist. I cannot be more pleased or happier with the waist belt. I think it may also be due to the fact that this pack is designed for women. I also love the easy accessible pockets on the waist belt; great for holding my camera and or cell phone. The pack also offers enough space for a four to seven day backpack trip. I am 5'9" and the M size works very well for me. I am looking forward to many more hikes and backpack trips with my Osprey Xena 70!

      My first pack

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I bought this as my first pack because it was on sale. I don't regret the purchase at all. I bought an XS (I am 5'3") and it fit well. I think my torso is 16". I recommend going to a store and getting sized before making a purchase if you don't know your torso size.

Anyways. I wore this for 2 days on my first backpacking trip and it was okay. The pack is nice and I like it but there is a hydration sleeve and my reservoir didn't fit well. There is a little clip to hold your reservoir in but I can't clip this unless the hydration sleeve is empty. Doesn't really matter though since the water is pretty difficult to get in and out of that sleeve. The clip is pretty useless. Other than that its good. I like the front pocket thing where I could throw my jacket and I liked the hip belt pockets since I could store my camera and trail map in there.

      Love at first hike

I've had several different pack including a couple from the north face and the osprey aura. This pack is so much more comfortable! I'm petite, 5'2" and 117 lbs. The xs in this pack fits so well! The pack carries loads very comfortably and it has so many well thought out features. I've only used it on one trip so far, but I'm looking forward to many more years of happiness with this comfortable pack!

Hey Sarah! After some time has now passed, how has the Xena treated you so far? Is it still as comfortable as the first trip? Feel free to reach out to me directly if you ever have any backpacking questions in the future ---

      Pure comfort!

Last season I used the Osprey Aura backpack (size SM), although I really loved the features of the pack, the sizing was not right for me. I couldn't get the perfect fit and would come home from a trip with bruises and cuts on my hip from the Aura pack. This season I decided to upgrade to this Xena series (size XS), my decision was based on my love for Osprey and the women-specific hip-belt. And wow, I am impressed with this pack. The hipbelt is perfect, it's padded and really fits my hips much better. I have carried heavier loads this backpacking season and my hips are fine, the description says "load-carrying comfort its top priority" and I couldn't agree more! My two favorite features is the removable top, it has two nice sized pockets and coverts into a lumbar pack and I love the external hydration sleeve. I do suggest you grab the Osprey bladder with the rigid back for this pack, any other bladder would be very difficult to fit in the sleeve. Great breathability due to the mesh backing. This pack is very durable and I know it will last me many years to come, backed up by the Osprey lifetime warranty.

        Pure comfort!

Load carry comfort up to 70lbs

The Xena knocks it out of the park for backpacking. The most comfortable trail pack out there made specifically for women. Manages loads extremely well, disperses/distributes weight with great compartments, fitted women's specific hip-belt (Huge bonus), and a mesh back panel that allows for great breathability. Ideal for weights up to 70lbs, enjoy comfort on the long haul with this beauty of a pack. For a bigger pack/more storage, check out my other favorite- The Ariel 75.
