    Inspires last-minute adventures.

It's five o'clock on Friday evening and you receive an enthusiastic text from your friends about impromptu plans to see a sold-out show they happened to score tickets to. The catch is you'll have to fly to Seattle to by tomorrow morning for the raucous show on Saturday night. After scoring a relatively cheap plane ticket at the last minute, you stuff the Osprey Transporter 40 Duffel to the brim with all your clothes and gear for the rowdy weekend ahead.

Lucky for you, the Transporter 40 Duffel is sized just right for a weekend trip, plus it's loaded with smartly placed pockets and stowable backpack straps for walking to your hotel. The durable nylon fabric doesn't flinch when you stuff it into airline overhead bins and the double TPU coating sheds Seattle's daily deluge without making a fuss. And when it's time to head back to the airport, all your must-haves are conveniently inside the zippered end pockets, including your wallet with identification, plane ticket, and noise-cancelling headphones.

    Great pack

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This is a great, simple duffel with backpack straps that can be tucked away. Having handles on all sides is great, can grab at any direction and they're sturdy as hell. There is a pocket on the top for like a wallet, phone, important documents etc accessible from the outside. Inside is one huge open compartment with a small netted pocket at the bottom, not accessible from the outside. There are two straps on the inside that help you secure things. Once you figure out how to pack in a way that always yields a good back support when you put it on you'll be happiest. Backpack straps are comfy and it's a stylish pack. Oh, and it fits carry on for airplanes just fine.

    Bomber Bag

My brothers and I (who are all outdoor enthusiasts of climbing, skiing, hiking, etc.) we all love these bags with a passion! Each of has at least one of the bags, if not more. They are tough, spacious, easy to carry and transport, and look fantastic with their sleek design. We've been using them for a few years now with no complaints - only praise.

      Transporter Supporter

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I used this duffel for 2 trips back to back - a desert car camping trip for a long weekend with the girlfriend in St. George and a 5 day trip to Chicago.
      I have absolutely no complaints.
The interior is so spacious I could've done without packing cubes. The backpack straps have the signature Osprey comfort so I trekked from the airport to the hotel in Chicago no problem at all. The straps unclip and fall away easily too, making for simple unpacking and repacking. These were the inaugural trips, but I can attest to the quality and the comfort.
This pack can fit in a trunk or overhead compartment easily. The nylon exterior dealt with rain easily as well. No worries on the safety of your gear here!

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Used it for 10 days in Europe, carried everything I needed, including two pairs of shoes in the pack (I stuck a pair of thin gym shoes in the sleeve that usually holds the backpack straps). It doesn't have a separate section for dirty shoes or wet clothes, and doesn't have a water bottle holder, but otherwise it was great. Straps on all sides to grab when needed. Great material, great zippers and the one big center pack was perfect.

      Hey Eric!
Great review! I love this pack for personal travel as well. In fact, I'm a big fan of it specifically because it doesn't have extra features restricting what I pack for. I prefer to pick a few packing cubes that fit my needs for separating dirty and clean clothes and typically just use a carabiner to hook a water bottle to the outside.

      THE Best Duffel

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Durable, water-resistant protection for your stuff no matter where you're headed. True to Osprey tradition, the harness is incredibly comfortable for a duffel. It also easily stows out of your way when you don't need it.

I used this duffel as my only piece of luggage (literally nothing else--no backpack, briefcase, nothing) for a 4-day trip where I interviewed with a business school, attended a wedding, went on a night out downtown with friends, and attended a campfire. I'd say that's about the limit for the 40 size, but it got the job done!

      Weekend Trips Made Easy!

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I don't know how I survived packing before I got the Transporter 40 because this guy makes it so easy. This bag is so comfortable to carry as a backpack or duffel bag. If Osprey knows how to do anything, they KNOW how to make a pack comfortable! The 40L is the perfect size for weekend trips. I like the lid of the bag and how it opens long ways to the side so the lid won't fall back down as you're trying to pack. The backpack straps stow away neatly in a pocket so you don't have to worry about forgetting them at home! I've taken this bag through inclement weather and my stuff was still dry when I went to take it out again. I really appreciated the inner compression straps to help keep my items secure as I've traveled bumpy, long distances with this bag!

      Great & comfortable shoulder straps!

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I bought 3 for our family and the shoulder straps are surprisingly comfortable and adjustable to all different body sizes, from my husband a 6’3 & 240lbs, to myself 5’2 & 125lbs, & our daughter 4’ & 65lbs.

      Great travel bag!

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I couldn’t desire a better bag! Fletch is right... I bought 3 of the same size in different colors for each of us / my husband & daughters. They are super durable, comfortable & stylish. We will be traveling in style and comfort knowing our climbing gear & clothes are well protected. Thanks Fletch... great product review that helped us make a fantastic family purchase!!

      Best Bag EVER

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I just purchased a couple different sizes of this bag, after buying and returning EVERY other brand of duffle bag (sorry Backcountry)! These bags are it for me. I will never have to buy another duffle in my lifetime based on how freakin' durable this series of bags are. I love the minimalist design, the fact that they can stand on their own unpacked, and I love the non-shiny, non trash bag look (think Patagucci) of the super durable material. Thankfully, it also has internal compression straps which other duffles lack. The backpack straps are incorporated so well into the design, I almost thought I got a defective pack without them included. Instead, the were tucked in their own stash pocket and barely noticeable. I also love that these bags still come with a shoulder harness as well for multiple carry options.

I just got back from my first trip with my 3 kids, and this bag got spilled on, stepped on and tossed around and my contents stayed clean and dry, and the bag is still pristine.

I am going to buy the largest version of this bag to complete my series, and then forget about ever needing to buy another duffle in my lifetime.......or my kids' lifetime either!

      Nice job Osprey!

      Great "Personal Item"for flying

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

The Transporter is a go to personal item to take on a flight. It's just small enough to fit under the seat, maybe don't fill it full if you fly Frontier. I was able to fit all of my clothes for a week of travel and still bring another carry-on for gear!

      My go to travel duffel

This is my favorite travel duffel I've used for the past year. The backpack design makes hauling easy and it's small enough to easily fit in the back seat of a car or an overhead bin on an airplane. If you pack smart, you can easily get enough clothes for a two-week trip packed in here as well.

Hey Bryce - Thank you! The best part about the duffel is the carry - we actually have a yoke, vs two straps that just come out, like the competition. This helps to disperse the weight more evenly across the back and shoulders. Very noticeable. Enjoy!

Really great bag ... just too big

        • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

Wow! What a fantastic bag!!! Awesome colors, great material outside and inside (I loved that the interior was nice and bright). The padding in the shoulder strap and backpack straps were great. Unfortunately it was just too big and I’m back to square one on finding a replacement for my duffel bag. But definitely a 5 ⭐️

        Better than black hole

        • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I just bought this bag and it is great! I have the Patagonia Black duffel and loved it, but this bag is better. The Transporter is better for several reasons. First, it is much hardier. The fabric that Osprey makes it out of is much sturdier. And both the handles and the zippers are very well thought out and rugged. Second, the size is much better for a carry on. It fits in the overhead bin easily. And it definitely meets the requirements for carry on luggage for most major domestic airlines. Third, the comfort level is better. Both the shoulder strap and the backpack straps are well-padded and and carry the load well. And finally, the shape of the bag allows for more items to be packed even though it is smaller. I already took this bag through the airport and it went smoothly. I was able to pack two jackets, clothes, and toiletries for 4 days easily in it. Again, the Black Hole duffel is great, but this bag is better.

        Watch out Patagonia!

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Osprey has outdone themselves! This pack is THE perfect weekender carry-on. By now most people are familiar with Patagonia's Black Hole duffel. This is Osprey's way of saying, "we know this sort of bag is already being sold, we just wanted to show everyone we could do it better." The Transporter is TPU coated protecting your contents from rain, abrasion and whatever else you may find lingering on airport chairs and floors. You could literally fill this thing to the brim with rocks and not worry about the backpack or shoulder straps breaking. There are so many ways to carry this thing you'll never get tired of it. The backpack AND shoulder straps are more padded and comfortable then the Black Hole. I wish there was a little bit more storage organizers or mesh pockets on the inside of the pack and that we had a little wider of a color selection but this is my new go-to small duffel!!

        Osprey Does it again!

Somehow, the designers and engineers at Osprey must have bugged their competitors bags because they always have solutions for competitors' flaws. I have the Patagonia Blackhole duffel and thought it was awesome until I bought this for my Dad so he could fly more on weekends. . It has so many clever little tweaks and extras that make it standout compared to the older iteration of the Blackhole . It might be the perfect size for international minimalist travel too. The straps seem very supportive and adjustable, and I can get more in this bag easier than in my Farpoint 40 honestly. I almost want to get some more packing cubes and organization pouches, and just travel with this from now on. We will see. Awesome product for traveling and hauling.

          So amazing!

Love my new Transporter 40! I have been waiting for Osprey to do this type of duffel for years and I am stoked to have it now. Comfortable shoulder harness, super durable and weather proof. I bought the green color and love it!

Hi, what is the length of the side pockets. Do the zippers open wide enough to fit a pair of running shoes (Sz 10) in either pocket? Thanks.

            Hey there Ravindra!

This pack actually does not have any side pockets! Osprey Packs Transporter has a full length-wise zip and a small end pocket. The Marmot Long Hauler has a D shaped length-wise zippered compartment as well and a small end pocket.

Which Osprey backpack is airline carryon size?

Hi Mike, are you asking which of these transporter Duffels are carry on? It would be the 40L size. But I know people who have gotten on with larger... it just depends on the flight attendants and ticket handlers.

Osprey has many many other carry on options, but I am not sure what type of bag you are looking for.
