Tempest 9L Backpack

Strap on the lightweight and versatile Osprey Women's Tempest 9 Backpack for a fast-moving day hike on Saturday, and a mountain bike ride on Sunday. The Tempest 9 offers room for trail maps and a rain shell, as well as bike tools and a spare tube in the front zippered pocket. The backpack includes a pull-out LidLock helmet attachment that pulls through the vents on your helmet to secure it to the front of the pack, as well as front bungee webbing and a tool loop and bungee ties to hold additional items and tools.

The shoulder straps and hip-belt are specially shaped, positioned, and padded to fit the female figure, and feature mesh-covered foam padding that provides breathable cushioning. The sternum strap keeps the backpack from shifting and helps support the pack's weight as you scramble up big rocks or carve through singletrack turns. With the hip belt's ErgoPull adjustment system, you'll be able to easily snug down or loosen up the hip belt on the fly. Reflective graphics make you visible in low light conditions, which is perfect if you decide to go for a trail run at dawn, return to your car, and hop on your mountain bike and ride until dusk.

Highly Recommended

Familiarity:
I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

I gave this as a gift to my sister, who had this to say: This backpack was exactly what I wanted for my trip. I was able to store my rain jacket and lunch with room to spare in my pack, and used the hip pockets for easy-to-reach trail snacks, and the side pockets for sunscreen and my water bottle. The straps on my hips were comfortable and I barely felt the shoulder straps, so my pack did not impede my movement or make me sore. There are some straps on the front which I think others may find useful for attaching various equipment; I only used them to tie some water shoes after a hike to the beach—which was great because they dried as I hiked back. I can’t wait to use this on future trips.

Great review - thank you Brad! Leta Osprey Rep

Awesome Pack For Hiking/Biking

Familiarity:
I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

If you are looking for a small comfortable pack for short hikes this is the backpack for you. I bought this Osprey pack as a gift for my girlfriend after she used my Osprey Raptor 10 on the Angels Landing hike in Zion National Park. She fell in love with the comfort and all the useful pockets on that pack so I knew I needed to find her one with similar features. The Tempest 9L fit the bill! My girlfriend is 5'7" and I got her the S/M and it fits great. My only complaint is the pack doesn't come with a Hydration Reservoir. So I ordered the Osprey Packs Hydraulics LT Hydration Reservoir in 2.5L to go in the backpack. Works great!

Holds so much stuff for a small pack!

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

After making do with a simple entry-level pack for a while, I selected the Tempest 9L in XS/S because I'm a smaller person (5'4") and I didn't want something huge and uncomfortable, and I only do day hikes so I figured this would work for me. I've been so impressed by how much I can fit in this pack, though! I routinely stuff 2 light jackets, lots of snack bars, and other small items into this without difficulty, and the extra pockets on the outside and the hip belt are so convenient. I even managed to attach my snowshoes (with a little help from the snowshoe strap) using the lid lock and outer bungee straps! The stow and go loops for my hiking poles are great, too. I've worn this on an 8 hour hike without any discomfort. I understand now why Osprey is so popular!

After

Alanna, thank you for the great review and image to go with it! So glad you like the Tempest - she is a great pack. I own the one just a little bigger, and love it. Thank you! Leta Osprey Rep

Got this for the Girlfriend

she likes the suspension and the back mesh. she says the woman's series is way better than my talon.

Thank you for sharing! Having used the Talon a lot before the Tempest came out, I can tell you that the Tempest is just a way better fit for women. I'm glad she likes it! Leta Osprey Rep

Great for daytime adventures

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I'm so glad I decided to invest in the Tempest 9L. I've used it for daytime hiking or biking adventures. The hip pockets are convenient (I can just barely fit my iphone into one of them), but what I really love are all the adjustable straps to find the perfect fit. For reference, I also purchased the Osprey Packs Hydraulics LT Hydration Reservoir in 1.5L to use with this pack.

Thank you Natasha! Happy Trails! Leta Osprey Rep

Is there a way to secure the Hydraulics LT Hydration Reservoir inside the backpack or does it stay upright on its own? Thanks!

Perfect size for Day Hikes

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I can carry 3L of water in my reservoir, plenty of snacks, a rain shell or jacket in my bag, and a camera too. It has two pockets on the hip straps that fit my cell phone, lip balm, and other odds and ends. The stash pocket up top is super convenient and roomy, as well as the mesh zippered pocket on the inside of the bag - which you can also clip your keys into. The shoulder straps are adjustable and distribute the weight nicely. This is like a micro version of my Osprey backpacking bag. Lots of thoughtful storage and accessibility options

Thank you Danielle! This is definitely one of my favorite series of packs - Enjoy! Leta Osprey Rep

Two thumbs up

This pack is great!! It works for all my summer needs. I take it mountain biking, hiking, and other assorted adventures. There's enough space to hold the essentials and to keep water close by. You wont be disappointed with this pack.
