Tempest 30L Backpack

It's Friday afternoon and you had a long week at work. A full Saturday or even a quick overnight up in the mountains would do you a world of good, and the Osprey Women's Tempest 30 Backpack is ready for a quick pack-up-and-go. The designers at Osprey molded the Airscape to fit the female torso comfortably, and it acts somewhat like a chimney to ventilate any excess heat so your back isn't a sweaty mess when you reach your campsite.

Biostretch covers the shoulder straps and waist-belt for maximum comfort and breathability while you hike, and the ErgoPull tabs cinch across your waist for an ideal fit. This top-loader fits the supplies you need for a dawn-to-dusk trip or a light overnighter, and you can remove the top lid and use it as a separate bag to stash a point-and-shoot and snacks in it for a quick scramble up to the ridge. The Tempest 30's hydration sleeve is easily accessible for quick refills, side stretch pockets can fit extra water or some snacks for the trip, two zippered pockets at the waist-belt store items you might need on the trail like lip balm or sunscreen, and one front mesh pocket holds your map, a book, or a last-minute item you might want before you head out.

  • Technical daypack designed for high-speed day adventures
  • Mesh backpanel helps keep you cool and comfortable
  • Shoulder harness and hipbelt distribute weight evenly
  • Compression straps add stability at speeds

'Tempest'ed to buy this pack? Do it!

I've used it several times

What can this pack not do?! Seriously, this is an awesome pack that you can bring on almost any single day (and some overnight) adventures: climbing, hiking, around town, biking, to work, to school, you name it. Most recently, I brought this pack on a trip to Bryce Canyon Nation Park, while exploring the Hoodoo's. This was perfect for the long day-hike that we did, I was able to pack layers, lunch/snacks, plenty of water, maps, a headlamp, and extra gear that my friends dumped on me (this is what happens when you have a super cool pack that can fit everything you need and more). Despite stuffing this pack, it never felt bulky or unnecessary. It is awesome to have a pack that can work as a day hike, but also have enough space for bigger outings.

Day Pack and More

I've used it several times

I got this pack for my climbing trip in CO. I used it for day trips, but realized I can easily be used for those 2-3 day trips. As for a approach pack, it was able to carry around all my sport climbing gear, rope, change of clothes/shoes, and lunch. With all the gear loops, pockets, it was easy to be organized. The main thing that sold me, was how versatile this pack is. I can use it for weekend trips, mountain biking, ice climbing, pretty much any activity. Its nice to have a pack to does everything. That way I dont have to waste money buying a pack for each sport. Favorite features: Ice axe and trekking pole attachments Helmet attachments Gear loops Dislikes: Doesn't come with a resistor-sold separately

Great backpack!

I've put it through the wringer

I've hiked the John Muir Trail and many other hikes with this pack and it's been great. I never got any blisters, chafing, or hot spots. I also loved the exterior pocket for the bladder. My old pack had this pocket on the inside and I'd have to take everything out to get to the bladder, so this is a great feature. It's definitely small, but I hiked with 2 other people so we were able to divvy up our supplies. I carried my sleeping bag, pad, tent, stakes, clothes, and food for the day. All of the exterior loops and clips came in hand as I was able to hang my wet laundry on the back of my pack while hiking so it could dry. I have a foam pad that I carried on the outside bottom of my pack, I was able to use the straps and loop it on. The waterproof factor is not great, the one day it rained the pack felt super heavy and took a few days to dry. I plan to use this pack on the Appalachian Trail this coming March, I'll just have to figure out how to better water proof it.

I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

If your a short gal and need a backpack small enough for day trips but can support an overnight or 2, look no further! Much better and comfortable than my Sirus 36L. CP

This pack, with the more flexible, forgiving frame style that the Sirrus 36, is such a great choice for active users - it just moves with you! Thanks for the review! Leta Osprey Rep

Durable and Versatile

I've used it several times

This pack is the ish! For realsies, though. I wanted a pack small enough for the day that could fit all of my climbing gear, including my rope and, with the help of my Gearhead, this pack was love at first sight. I definitely put it through the ringer over this New Year's weekend in Joshua Tree, scrambling over and under boulders to get to where we were going, and it's such a durable pack. Not a single part showing wear and I definitely skid on my butt with it more than a few times. I packed my first aid kit, two pairs of shoes, chalk bag, harness, slings, carabiners, my 40oz Hydro Flask, snacks, a jacket, and my helmet with more than enough room to spare. Which is beautiful for when I get my quickdraws and when I cross over into trad climbing, I know I can still use this pack. Small enough for a day hike, big enough for a long day at the crag. LOVE this pack!

I've used it several times

I am seriously in love with this backpack—it's big enough for a quick overnight trip and small enough for a day trip. It's never bulky because of the perfectly placed drawcord and straps. My favourite features? The mesh backpanel is perfect for those sweaty hikes as it gives your skin room to breathe. The pockets in the hip hold my bear bangers, chapstick and snacks well. The size is perfect and it looks good whether I decide to fill it or only carry a few items. All in all, I'm so stoked on this backpack—10/10 would recommend to a friend.

Great looking pack!

This looks like a great pack. My wife was looking forward to utilizing it on hikes. Unfortunately, the pack does fit quite right. We decided our daughter can use this pack since we think it will be an asset to hikes.

Were you able to adjust the harness? Did you order the correct size? Let me know if I can help! Leta Osprey Rep

Best Extended Day Pack

I've put it through the wringer

I bought this pack to replace my TNF Casamir 28L pack that was designed with the same intentions in mind: engineering a lightweight daypack for mountain adventures. Now that I have this pack, I can't believe I waited so long to upgrade! The back panel is incredibly comfortable for a lightweight pack -- you won't find Osprey's full Anti Gravity system in this pack because it is designed with weight>comfort in mind. But comfortable it is! I bought the mint color because turquoise is my favorite... and now I look like a giant Easter egg when I'm hiking. The fabric itself is quite durable for a lightweight pack. I took it canyoneering last weekend in a canyon that was no wider than 8 inches at some points. It was dragged, dumped, tossed, and sandpapered down the canyon for 2.5 hours and I noticed minimal wear. I look forward to using this in the summer as my mountain mission pack for 20 hour adventures. Enough room to pack a down layer, rain layer, med kit, snacks, helmet, map, half rope, sunglasses + case, gaiters, and the works. It is also able to pack down quite compact for shorter missions with all of the adjustable straps. 10/10 would recommend to a friend. Favorite Features: + Tuck away trekking pole/ ice ax carry straps + Adjustable harness + Hip pockets (I keep chapstick and a knife in one and a clif bar in the other) + Top Clip in addition to cinch close on the main compartment of the pack (great for keeping a rope in place) + Fabulous color selection + Mesh pocket under the brain to keep keys, ID, map, etc Complaints/Observations: - hip pockets too small for a a phone - strap pocket to small for a phone or GPS device

does it have a internal frame

Hi Tenley, yes, this is an internal frame pack and in my opinion one of the best day packs for extended hikes
