    Keep it basic.

Load up everything you need for a day in the mountains in your Osprey Women's Skimmer 22 Hydration Pack and hit the open trail. A simple design, supportive framesheet, and comfortable mesh-lined shoulder harness make the Skimmer easy to pack and comfortable to carry whether you're exploring a new trail, tackling summits, or just pedaling your bike across town.

The Skimmer comes with a 2.5-liter hydration reservoir, making it easy to stay hydrated when you're out hiking on a hot and sunny day. The Skimmer has more pockets than you can shake a stick at, including a scratch-free pocket for sunglasses or electronics, a front organizer for small items, and a front shove-it pocket for a light layer or rain jacket, just to name a few.

Gave it to my wife, now I want one!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

We got this pack for my wife for day-hikes and quick over-night trips. I knew Osprey was solid from some friends having their packs, but Karissa at Backcountry shared this pack among a few others to us and when we compared them all this was the winner. Plenty of exterior gear loops for trekking poles and such, and the zippers I feel are sturdy and will last a long time. The sizing of the bag is nice to fit different bodies, (my wife is 5'3" and got the Small/Medium) She used this on a 12 mile day-hike the first trip we had it and it was comfortable all day. The minimal hip belt is a nice feature too. Overall the materials are tough, but light-weight, and the large exterior pocket is the best for stuffing an extra layer in on the go. Hydration pack compatibility is a plus and oh by the way, THIS COMES WITH A HYDRATION PACK! That's a great deal! Thanks to Karissa for steering us towards this one! Ask her, she knows what's up and is more fun to deal with than a computer!

    Perfect Day Pack

Love this pack. I used it for day hiking in Kauai. It fits well. Has tons of pockets to hold all the things. It can hold a lot without feeling too bulky. If you're looking for mostly a hydration pack, you should get something smaller. This pack is way more than just a hydration pack.

    Great run commuting pack

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I bought this backpack for run commuting (about 5.5-6 miles between my work and home). I love that this pack is simple but functions great. The zippered pockets offer plenty of space and organization for everything I need for my day including breakfast/lunch/snacks and change of clothes. The straps and waist belt are padded so they are comfortable even when running. Once I get the straps adjusted, the pack does not bounce around so I don't have any issues with chafing from the pack. I'm 5"7 and a size 4 or 6 clothes and the xs/s fits me well.

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

When I was presented with a large tote of backpacks on my recent trip to California (see "State of Gold" on the Backcountry homepage), I ended up choosing the Skimmer 22. Seems like I should have chose the Skarab and given this one to Rachel or Kate! Haha. My mistake. Even though I ended up choosing this women's pack, I was impressed with the Skimmer's performance on the trail. I hiked with it in Death Valley, Joshua Tree and used it as a beach bag in San Clemente. I really liked the non-scratch pocket for sunglasses and the ability to use a 2.5-liter bladder (I drink lots of H2O). Plus the BioForm harness had enough adjustment for me at 6'1" with a 34" waist even though the waist hipbelt was pretty far up my torso. Ideally you want the waist hipbelt on your hips obviously. I would still recommend this pack to any woman or man looking for a versatile, comfortable hiking pack for the summer. Osprey knows what they are doing even if I don't sometimes!

My wife measured 17 inches from top of hip to neck. Should I go with xs/s our s/m? I am 5 foot 2 inches tall.
