On the crest of something magical.

Arguably, there's nothing more rejuvenating than spending a day out on the skin track or boot-packing within the lift-accessed areas of the ski resort. And since more than half the battle is terrain, know that you can trust the Osprey Kresta 20 Backpack to carry your avalanche gear and necessities—without getting the way of having fun.

Specifically, the Kresta 20 is fashioned with a women-specific, Light Wire suspension system that when combined with the padded help belt and stabilization straps, provide a comfortable and pressure-free haul. Additionally, the thermoformed, contoured back panel sheds snow easily, and ultimately reduces the build-up of frozen precipitation. A dual-position, deployable helmet net makes carrying your melon-protector easy (when it's not in use).

Not to mention, the Kresta boasts a horizontal snowboarding carrying feature, or if you're of the dual-planked nature, it also touts an A-frame or diagonal ski carrying design. More importantly, the Kresta has a J-shaped avalanche gear compartment, complete with dry pocket, so you're able to access your safety gear in a flash and separate other sensitive items from wet skins or damp clothing. And, last but not least, a back panel entry system enables you to access snacks or extra layers quickly, and all of the Kresta's zipper pulls, as well as buckles, are glove and mitten friendly.

    Perfect for short days uphill

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I am an entry-level backcountry skier and find this pack to be the perfect size for those shorter, under-five mile tours. The front pocket is set up to store your avy gear, and no more or less so it keeps you organized.
When adjusted right, the pack sits comfortably above my hips and curves with back for a comfortable fit that keeps your hips mobile. The padded waist belt is very comfortable, it does not dig into your hips at all when adjusted tightly which is really nice.

    Dope Pack

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This pack is awesome, not only the color/style looks great, but the functions are great as well. I used this just for a half day skiing, as well as some traveling and it worked out really nicely for both activities for me! Skiing, I was able to take up some snacks, an extra layer, and had plenty of room for more. I don't tour (yet) but would definitely have been able to fit skins, probe, etc when I do.
I used it also for traveling and it fit snacks, books, an extra layer as well.
Some features I love are the insulated hydration tube sleeve, so your water won't freeze in the tube on the mtn. Just make sure you don't have water left in the bite valve or that could freeze.
I love all the pockets!! There are so many different pockets this backpack offers, and I love all the storage space because of that. This is a smaller pack, but with all the different organization to it, I felt like I could fit more in it than an average 20L pack.
    I highly recommend this pack!

Great Pack, but a little small

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I got my wife this pack to play around with while I introduced her to ski touring. I have the following feedback.

I liked this pack. It held what I needed for the short tours we did. I had the older version, which didn't have all the newest features of this pack for adjustability. It was a little small in volume to be able to tour for longer days. However, the helmet carry system is really handy. The new ones have the ability to carry either on top or on the back of the pack.
Overall solid pack but if you plan on an 8 hour day or a day in the pits, you will want some extra room for the extra layers.

Hey Travis, yes, this was not designed for longer tours, that's why we have the Kresta 30. I love this pack for short tours and more often, for terrain beyond the ropes at the resort. Thanks for the review!

    Great Fit

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I've been struggling with ski pack fit for a LONG time, and this finally works. It fits everything I want and on my back comfortably. It's a light day pack size- and I use it for quick morning missions. Longer days I would size up- but this is the perfect little shorter mission pack!

    Best for: Half Days

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

The gear pockets and J strap for your avy tools are what make this pack great. Easy to access and not a struggle to close. The ski/board carry is great and I never felt like my trekking poles would go flying while I was in snowboard mode. I would not recommend this as your main Backcountry ski pack. It's a little to small to carry all the essential gear for a full day tour. This pack is best suited for a trip off the sidecountry at the resort or a quick lap before work.
