    Hike light.

Getting outside for a day hike doesn't mean you need to pack for the weekend—the Osprey Hikelite 18 Backpack provides just enough room for vitals without breaking your back. A ventilated AirSpeed back panel keeps air flowing between the pack and yourself, so there's no sweaty feeling at the end of the day, and Biostretch harness straps ensure the bag rests comfortably on your shoulders. With 18 liters of space you've got room for your rain shell, a warm layer, and lunch, and a hydration-compatible pouch can hold a three liter reservoir. Should clouds show up and you find yourself pulling out that raincoat, the Hikelite 18 comes with its own incorporated rain cover, keeping your layers and lunch nice and dry. The waist webbing can be removed if you're traveling on a plane and need it out of the way, and the sternum strap includes a whistle for alerting your hiking buddies if you get lost.

    Great day bag

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Used this bag as a work bag and a daypack. its a fantastic bag from Osprey. I took it up to outlaw cabin in the Wasatch and ran down the mountain, it carries weight very well. and the built-in rain cover is awesome.

    New favorite pack

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I bought this pack last week and have grown to like it very much. I initially thought that 18L might be a bit small for anything other than a smaller day hike, but it turns out that is can hold much more than I thought. I use it almost every day whether I'm heading to work with my lunch and some other small things or out on a hike. Plenty of room for a rain jacket or sweatshirt, some snacks, and water. The side mesh pockets fit a Nalgene no problem. Haven't gotten a bladder just yet for it, but when I do, I imagine that will be my go-to for water storage, which will open up a bit more room inside. Overall, I'd recommend this for a day pack any time. I just took it to Moab for the weekend also and was able to use it for travel to hold all of my clothes. When I head to Denver I will use this bag to travel through the airport with my stuff since I pack light, so I don't have to check a bag and will easily be able to shove it in the overhead bin. I can't stand bags under my seat. I recommend this bag.

    Travel Light

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I really like this pack. It is perfect to travel with. It can surprisingly expand a good amount. It's perfect for packing a hoodie/jacket and some snacks for short adventures. I could definitely use it for a day hike.. It is very comfortable, the straps are perfect and you can't feel any weight in it. Even with your bladder full and extra jackets and food inside.

    Hike in Comfort

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This pack has quickly become my go to for shorter to medium hikes, and it usually sits in my car; just in case I get the itch to go on a hike. The main reason for this is that the suspension system is extremely comfortable but also lightweight. It also has the pack sit slightly off your back, which creates superb ventilation. This pack is big enough for a jacket, snacks, and other random things; but also has compression straps on the side if you do not need much. It has a sleeve for a bladder and it keeps it snug inside. Over-all this has become one of my favorite packs due to the comfort and variability.
