Best backpack out there

Familiarity:
I've used it several times
Fit:
True to size
Size Bought
Men's Large
Height
6` 3"
Weight
180 lbs

I initially got the women's version of this bag for my wife while we traveled Europe but I was so impressed with how it handled everything I got one myself as soon as I got home. It works just as well as a carry-on for business trips as it does for hiking. The detachable day pack is perfect for your laptop or smaller day hikes. I wish it had maybe one more compartment inside the larger bah but overall you can't beat the versatility of Farpoint 55.

The Best Travel Pack, Hands Down

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I've lived out of several travel bags, and this is easily my favorite. The ability to clip the day pack to your front or zip it the the back of the pack makes time in the airport or train station breeze. You don't realize how nice it is until you don't have it. Secondly, the main pack is just a really flexible design for packing your stuff. A lot of travel bags put a bunch of organizational features for what they think you should want, but they never end up fitting my exact needs. Honestly, its just nice to only have to open one zipper to get to everything when you're living out of your luggage. If you need it, just snag a couple travel cubes and this thing will let you set up your own organization system (or lack thereof) in a jiffy.

4 years 15+ countries strong

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I have had this bag since 2014, I originally got it to travel through Europe staying at hostels. I loved it so much I haven't even thought about getting another travel backpack. The day pack is the perfect size. It's perfect when leaving for the day, taking it as a personal item on a plane, or putting it in a locker. The pack itself is comfortable and extremely durable. I loved that the bag opens up completely and not just from the top. It allows me to pack it well and access things easier. This pack is the perfect size, I used it to backpack 6 months straight and it fit everything. This pack is so comfortable I even used it to backpack Everest Base Camp, the Milford Track, and the Routeburn track and It performed perfectly every time. I loved the stowaway pocket for the straps for checking the bag on airlines, or using it as a duffel. It's been 4 years now and plan to use it for another 4. It has no wear and still performs like I bought it yesterday. I'm 6' 143lbs and use a size M/L

My Bestfriend

This summer I spent 10 weeks exploring Europe with me myself & I... and my Osprey Farpoint 55L Backpack. The stowaway straps were perfect for the airports because nothing would get caught. This bag has everything you need for a long or short trip. The straps have a wide range of adjustments. I'm 5'10 and ordered the m/l jasper red which fit perfectly.

Thanks so much, Tova! So glad you enjoy! Leta Osprey Rep

The best travel pack... For now

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I bought this backpack for a backpacking trip through Southeast Asia earlier this fall, and it was amazing. As someone who was looking for an excuse to slim down on what I had to pack, this bag made it totally worth it. Quality is great, what I would expect from Osprey. The shoulder straps and hip belt are also super comfortable. On the flip side, I see travel bags quickly becoming a saturated market. Which is great for us because it means competition, which in turn means innovation. For now I believe this is the best backpack on the market for world travel! I am 6' 4", 145 lbs. and I wear a M/L

Versatility, utility, and comfort!

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

As an avid traveller and photographer I found the Osprey Farpoint 55L backpack to be completely versatile. The pack offers ample room for all my gear. One of the features I wasn't sure about upon receiving the pack was the comfortability of the shoulder straps and waist belt, especially being 260lb and 6'2" (I went with the M/L pack) ; surprisingly I found the pack to be extremely comfortable (packed with my camera gear, clothes, and food/water) even for longer hikes! The pack also worked great for shorter trips as a checked bag (think weekend trip). The exterior compression straps allows you to really turn the pack into a smaller footprint which I found is extremely helpful, and double as a Tripod Carrier. The interior compression straps in the Osprey Farpoint 55L really helps secure your contents as well. One important note that's mentioned in the reviews thus far is the pack, especially the zippers when packing a lot of gear do need a period of break in, but I've found them to be more forgiving the more I use the pack. My favorite feature of the Osprey Farpoint 55L backpack, is probably the lightwire frame, honestly it keeps this pack comfortable, which is super important. If you're looking for a pack that can do a lot of things well, the Osprey Farpoint 55L is a great pack. It's rugged, comfortable when packed, and really easy to clean.

Does not work for a tall person

Familiarity:
I returned this product before using it

I already own the Atmos 55 and the Farpoint 40, which are great bags, and fit my 6'6" frame well. The Farpoint 55, however, does not! Both the main pack and the day pack felt ridiculously small, the main straps barely reaching my armpits, and the lowest I could get the sternum strap on either was just bellow my neck, and the hipbelts sat in my midsection, not even wrapping past my sides. This is the newest model in the M/L size. In other respects, it appears to be a great bag, but for my long term adventures, it's a no-go.

Justin, I am so sorry. We know that we are missing the bookend sizes... not big enough for really tall folks, and maybe too big for a really small person. Thank you for passing this on. Leta Osprey Rep

great pack

Familiarity:
I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

I bought this for a friend because she was going on a backpack trip through Europe. She says this bag packs a lot and still feels lightweight on her back.

Great, versatile backpacking backpack

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

My wife and I each bought one of these for our two-week Europe trip. They worked great. Never did I feel like my pack was uncomfortable or too heavy, meaning that it does a great job of distributing the weight. This backpack was clutch for getting on and off the planes, trains, etc. The main pack is the size of a carry-on luggage (the main reason we chose this one) and the daypack worked as a personal item. I am pretty utilitarian when it comes to purchases like this but this backpack checked all my boxes and has a good, conservative aesthetic. I love that it has handles on the top and side. This made carrying it way easier when I wasn't wearing it as a backpack. We look forward to using these packs for many more trips in the future. I'm 6'2" and about 150 lbs; I bought the M/L.

Wonderful Travel Pack

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

This pack is great for weekend getaways! Whether that being a trip down to the desert car camping, or traveling for several days on public transit/airplanes. I love that it can be a packed away so the straps don't hangout and can easily be put on a plane! In addition is comes with a zipper system that allows it to open like a suit case so you dont have to dig through it like a traditional back packing backpack. Also, it's so handy to have a backpack that can attach and detach when needed for day hikes or the farmers market. The hip straps are very comfortable and feel like they fit my hips well. I am a 5'7 girls and the s/m fit me. If you are looking for a women's specific version check out the fair view.

Easy to use, quality pack

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

So far this has been a great pack. It has several features that make it perfect for travel, my favorite being that its front loading as opposed to top loading. Whenever i get to my destination I can zip it open and have easy access to all my gear. I find myself attaching the day pack and wearing it on the front more often than I zip the bags together . I think its disperses the weight nicely and makes it more comfortable to wear for long stretches. I got this bag knowing that it was just a bit to big for carry on, but so far i havent had any issues using it as a carry on. The bags were a bit tough to zip together when they are fully loaded, but this keeps getting easier as they get broken in. This bag is very airport friendly and convenient for overseas travel.

Thank you Tyson! I am so psyched that Osprey now makes a women's version, sized for my XS torso! Happy Trails! Leta Osprey Rep

Osprey For The Win

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

Osprey continues to impress me with their unique innovation, quality craftsmanship, and their diversity of backpacks currently in the market. This is a great option for anyone looking for a travel bag for Europe or anywhere else your heart desires. I really like the zip off daypack/travel on pack of this bag which makes it incredibly convenient and versatile. Osprey has also thought out the handles and organization of the bag with an emphasis on functionality. Another feature that particularly stands out to me is that the backpack straps can be stowed away so they do not get caught when loading/unloading in overheads or when checking bags.

Thank you Charlie! Sorry for the late reply! Leta Osprey Rep

Great Travel Pack

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

This pack is great for traveling. Of course it is super comfortable but it has all the bells and whistles too. I like to use it for travel but also for hiking as well. Great all around pack.

If empty, does the top of the pack "squish" so it could compress down to 22" for a carry on?

For the Farpoint 55, what is the liter capacity of the detachable daypack vs. the rest of the backpack? Is 55 L the total capacity (including the daypack), or does the daypack add extra carrying capacity on top of the 55 L main backpack? Thanks a lot.

Hey Peter - I am reaching out to Osprey to get the right answer here. I'll be back to you shortly! Leta Osprey Rep

Hey Peter - sorry for the delay: The main pack body is 42L, and the daypack is an additional 13L. Please let me know if you have any other questions! Leta Osprey rep
