Aether AG 85L Backpack
Buy a plane ticket to New Zealand, pack up your gear in the Osprey Aether AG 85 Backpack, and wander into the land of infinite possibilities. Equipped with Anti-Gravity technology, the newly reworked back panel is specifically designed to make the pack feel lighter than it actually is through a suspended panel of lightweight mesh that has a not-even-there feel when the pack is weighed down with a week's worth of gear. A staple of Osprey's packs, the LightWire frame provides crucial support while keeping weight to a minimum through its reliable load transfer, allowing you to focus on the overwhelmingly grandiose beauty of your surroundings, instead of the brutal weight of your pack while trekking rocky, steep terrain.
The adjustable IsoForm5 shoulder harness and CM hip belt allow the fit of the pack to be dialed in to fit your frame size—although, it's worth a mention that the pack is available in three different sizes to fit different torso lengths. A removable top-lid converts to a detachable day pack for quick adventures away from base camp, while the zippered sleeping bag compartment and removable sleeping pad straps carry your bed-time gear with ease. Multiple compression straps help cinch down the load for added stability, and multiple gear attachment points hold ice axes and trekking poles for close-at-hand access. From week-long trips to full-on month-long adventures, the Aether AG is your go-to pack to getting you through the backcountry with all your gear.

Used this pack for an overnight trip in southern Utah its first time out and I love it. I was able to comfortably carry camping gear, food, and extra clothes. Can't wait to plan another trip and bring this along.

This is the first official backpacking pack I have purchased, and I love it. I have had it less than a month, but in that time I used it for a five day trip in the San Rafael Swell. With the 85L size, I was able to comfortably carry everything that I needed, plus all of my food. I look forward to my next adventures with this pack.

just what i needed
I love Osprey packs and needed to upgrade to the 85L because most of my backpacking now also includes alpine climbing objectives. This pack durable and large enough for me to carry my backpacking essentials and my climbing gear. The removable daypack brain is great to store food, water, and layers when I am on the climbs. Osprey is really at the forefront of backpacking comfort and usability.

I purchased this for use when I do backcountry hiking. It's fantastic. The weight distributes evening, the straps don't cut into me, and it has held up well. Highly recommend.

Spacious, but different AG Suspension
So to be fair, I did order it slightly too large. The shoulder straps barely fit in the right place and the waist strap was just a bit too loose at its tightest. Iâm 5â11â 150lbs 30-32in waist and I had a large.

You can't go wrong.
I bought the Aether 85 in July and started getting ready for the AT in 2018. Even when you load it up, the suspension distributes weight just as they say. So far, I have 150+ miles hiking in Mississippi and Louisiana. Be sure to get good shoes if you are going to get a large capacity pack. Your feet will know the weight before the rest of your body if you don't.

I mean it's Osprey
Osprey is a great brand that has never failed me. The fit is true it holds up amazingly. They for sure know how to make packs, and this is no different. I love how it fits snug and does not move around, even when I have loaded it up to the max. I always feel like I'm able to get more in the pack than expected. Although I have only had to warranty one pack (and that was after 5 years of heavy use) I loved the ease of working with their warranty department. Just sent it in, they patched it up and sent it back.

My last pack was an Aether 70
This Pack shows 10 years of innovation. I can't wait to use it

Went this pack in the 85L as my backpacking gear hasn't quite transitioned into the ultralight space and I like to bring a few comfort items that most people I'm sure could do without (extra snacks, pillow, the like). After using it all summer I'm super impressed. Like Travis say below it's certainly not the lightest pack out there but it's gotta be the most comfortable in my opinion. The suspension system is second to none and it has all the features you'd want in a pack for multi-day trips. Can't beat the detachable day pack as well. For any sizing questions or to chat about an Osprey packs please feel free to reach out!

I love this pack. The Anti Gravity suspension system has to be the most comfortable I've used. I sweat a lot and with this system, the pack is lifted off my back to allow air to flow through and help regulate temperature where the pack would otherwise rest and heat further. I've used this pack for numerous activities, including backpacking, ski touring and some mountaineering objectives. The top lid unclips and turns into a great summit pack that is hydration compatible and even has an ice axe loop too. This pack is not the lightest, but I would argue it is the most comfortable, so if that is what you're looking for, then I would strongly recommend this pack. Feel free to reach out to me with any sizing questions, or any questions about this pack or anything else.

Have you experienced any issues with snow getting stuck in the mesh panels? Seems like it would be hard to get all of ie out. I'm undecided between this pack and the Xenith 88 L... did/do you have any thoughts on that? I'll like a pack for 10-14 days trips in the Scandinavia, where the climate is often wet and we'll be bringing some "real food", which is heavier and bulkier than the freeze dried stuff.

Top Lid As A Daypack Is Amazing!
The top lid detaches as a daypack/summit pack and is an invaluable feature of the Aether. The Ariel is the womens version of this bag. Photo from a 16 mile dayhike in Havasupai along the Havasu Creek to the confluence of the Colorado River.

Do these have interchangeable hip belts? I have a 17" (small) torso but also a 36" waist.
November 24, 2018
Hey Eric, good question: Yes they do - The IsoForm5 harness and CM hipbelt provide outstanding fit and comfort for especially heavy loads and long miles. Both components are interchangeable to provide a truly custom fit.
