Aether AG 70L Backpack

Equipped with Osprey's Anti-Gravity technology, the Aether AG 70 Backpack will take your mind off the steep, rocky trail and let it soar along the high, exposed ridges and lush alpine meadows you encounter when you're on the trail. The newly reworked back panel is specifically designed to make the pack feel lighter than it actually is through a suspended panel of lightweight mesh that has a barely-there feel when the pack is weighed down with a week's worth of gear. Being the second largest pack in Osprey's Aether line, this 70-liter option is ideal for everything from quick weekend backpacking trips, week-long treks through wilderness areas, and remote summit attempts in rarely visited corners of remote mountain ranges.

The Aether has been a staple in Osprey's impressive lineup of packs for quite a few years now, so it's no surprise that the AG 70 has an impressive pedigree behind its design. The pack's tried-and-true LightWire frame has been the backbone behind Osprey's packs for years and provides crucial support while keeping weight to a minimum. The adjustable shoulder harness and hip belt allow the fit of the pack to be dialed in to fit your frame size—although, it's worth a mention that the pack is available in four different sizes to fit different torso lengths. When the allure of remote summits draw you into the backcountry, detach the top lid, which converts into a full-featured daypack, and load it up with all the water, snacks, and extra layers you need to get up and down your objective safely.

  • A full-featured pack for week-long treks and thru-hikes
  • Lightweight and breathable suspended Anti-Gravity suspension
  • IsoForm5 harness and CM waist belt support heavy loads
  • Top and J-zip front panel grant access to main compartment
  • Convertible top lid doubles as a small summit pack
  • Integrated FlapJacket lid cover allows for lidless use
  • External hydration reservoir sleeve (reservoir not included)
  • Front, side, top, and waist belt pockets stow additional gear

I bought this pack during the pandemic. I'm a long-distance hiker. The suspension is wonderful if you fit the pack correctly. There is an incredible amount of storage. I love the brain that turns into a day pack. Both the pack and the brain have deep pockets for a water bladder.

Best load hauler I have used. Coming from a gregory palisade and boltaro. Not the lightest, But the most comfortable. Zippers on hip belt are difficult would be my only complaint, and you almost have to use their brand bladder because of the hose placement. Love.

Vastly improved over previous version.

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Several years ago, before this pack was redesigned, I was shopping for a backpack that could haul loads of 50+ pounds. The old design had a horrible back panel, bulky hip belt, and thin shoulder straps. The new one has fixed all of that. It's even better than my Gregory Baltoro, which I bought in 2016 because it was one of the best at the time. I also like how the Aether Anti Gravity system allows for changing hip belt sizes. My Atmos AG has a fixed belt that can't be swapped.

Best pack ever

Tons of space, easy access to all compartments without having to remove lots of gear to get out what you need, and the back support is amazing. The frame wraps around your hips and tightly hugs your waist, taking weight and pressure off your back. The lid/day pack feature is amazing.

Only bag that fits me just right

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I have tried many bags out and this one is the only one that fits me perfectly. It allows me to carry my weight for miles. I also love the J front zipper, I pack strategically and put the stuff I will absolutely meed to get to quick right there on the outside. The detachable day pack works great too.

My Favorite Backpack There is

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

This bag is great! There are many access points to get into the main compartment and many straps to attach your gear to. I was using a friends bag to figure out if I wanted one or not and I absolutely loved it! I had to buy one immediately. The detachable lid is great for day excursions

A Floating Backpack

Familiarity:

This was my first time using Osprey's Anti-Gravity suspension system and WOW. It really does feel like its floating on your hips. Extremely satisfied.

Best Backpacking Pack!

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

This is a great pack with a lot of available storage space. Perfect for long or short backpacking adventures. The hip belt is comfortable and distributes the weight well. The pack is ‘Anti Gravity’ and provides great back support. It sits just slightly away from my back which makes me not as sweaty as well. The hip belt pockets are convenient to store snacks while hiking and there are plenty of straps available to hang additional gear if needed.

Thanks Jessica. Appreciate the review! Leta Osprey Rep

Big load hauler

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

Unbelievable comfort while carrying big weight. It's a multi-day pack made for carrying heavy loads. Suspension is great. Could use a couple extra pockets. Stash pocket is great for carrying camp shoes or a rain jacket. Love the trekking pole loops for transport (on the pack's back), and the trekking pole loops (on the left shoulder strap and below the water bottle pocket) for climbs and scrambles so there is no need to break the poles down or toss them up ahead of you. I was using a Gregory Triconi (basically a 60 liter Gregory Baltoro-2008 model), but at around 35 pounds I began to feel it. At 50 pounds (day one, with 5 days worth of food and transporting 5 liters of water to my campsite), the Aether still carries the load comfortably. Cannot recommend enough.

Unbelievable

Comfort and quality

The first thing I would like to point out about this pack is while it is not necessarily heavy or light for its specs (certainly would be considered heavy to ultralighters), it feels much lighter than it’s weight because of Ospreys suspension system. This translates equally once a load is applied. I enjoy backpacking and winter tracking with this pack for its size, features like the daypack, and durability. The pack seems decently durable, with no noticeable issues after my first spring/summer season with it of roughly 250 miles through snow and heat. The hip pockets have a good size for me, but I don’t have a massive iPhone plus. I have a fairly good base weight before considering my professional camera and lens and fly fishing gear. In total I typically carry about 20-25 pounds depending on how much water is needed during the hike out, and how many days I need food for. In the winter months, add a solid 5 pounds at least due to heavier weight gear plus an extra liter (i always carry minimal water during flowing months ). I hardly feel back strain or issues because of the suspension and could easily and have loaded up to 45 pounds with summit brews, crampons and ice axe and backpacking gear , and would do so again knowing this pack has my back. The daypack is nice for quick hikes from basecamp, fly fishing, bringing an extra lens and layer, etc. I will say that it would be nice to have an extra exterior pocket, and the daypack straps inside the brain are in the way when not in use a bit, but overall this is a versatile pack that is comfortable and will help you get where you want to be.

Osprey is truly the gold standard!

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

This pack is incredible like every product Osprey makes! Recently used this pack for a 3 day trip in the White Mountains PEMIGEWASSET WILDERNESS in N.H. This thing was loaded with around 60 pounds of gear and I was sill feeling great after +12 miles on steep loose rocky trails. I loved how I was able to use the red iner strap on the top as a small divider by laying my spyder sweater on it and stuffing my other clothes on top while keeping my gear (Jetboil, sleeping pad, food ect) in the bottom to access with the front side zipper. The top daylid is just genius! I used it for every from quick walks off the main course to hauling our full hydro bladders back from the stream. I should also say the above mentioned hydro bladders are also Osprey brand and also the best, I have used quite a few but will never use another. I really cant say enough good things about this pack, it fits so much and feels great on your back for 8+ hours. I should mention I also had the belt molded at a local Osprey dealer (but purchased it here because Backcountry rocks!) however I molded it a bit to tight to me and it was a bit of a pain to get on because it had so much curve to them. My own fault so no points off to the pack! I am a smaller guy, 5 foot 10 and around 150 with a 30 inch waist the medium fit me perfect. I also own a 35L Stratos pack and a 50L Atmos, I love them all and after my dog chewed a hole in one to get a snack they replaced if free of charge. Keep on rockin and flying high Osprey!

A true black hole

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I've used this backpack consistently since 2010. From multi-day backpacking trips, travel home for the holidays, month-long excursions for biology field work, and simply transporting the 50lb dog around town, this pack is a true champion. It swallows gear like a black hole - I always seem to be able to fit more. I'm 6'1", 175 lbs, and the large fits me great. My favorite features are the expandable front and side mesh gear pouches - super handy for storing water bottles, tent/trekking poles, and my rain gear + puffy for super quick access. At first, I thought the removable top lid used as a day/fanny pack was a little gimmicky, but turns out it's an awesome feature! Works great on trips like the Colorado Trail, where you want to bag side peaks off the main trail, but you don't want to carry your full load! My version doesn't have hipbelt pockets, and I really wish it had them - glad to see the newer versions have em. But, this also speaks to the packs durability...I've had the exact same Aether for 8+ years of crazy adventures up peaks, down rivers, and through oceans of powder to get to that secluded yurt in the backcountry. And, if it ever has something go wrong, Osprey has one of the best warranty/replacement systems in the industry (The Almighty Guarantee) - they stand by their gear! If you're looking for a great, big adventure pack, look no further.

great multi-day hauler

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

Perfect for a long backpacking trip. The cavernous 70 liters of hauling space is key for holding all of your equipment needs. Ample pockets and tie down straps. The Heat Moldable Hip belt and Back support makes for a custom fitting pack that will be comfortable for long distances. The top of the pack disconnects to become a stand alone fanny pack, great for day tripping. I have had this pack for 3 years, and it has been bullet proof.

Great Purchase

Osprey Packs Aether AG 70L backpack Intro: 1 backcountry trip Performance/Use: I just upgraded to this pack from an REI brand light 65 pack. O boy…this thing is awesome. I am male 6’1, 165 pounds and could have gone M or L, but I feel like medium fit me a bit better. I am quite skinny and not too much padding around the hip or iliac crest and this thing is ultra comfortable. Lots of pockets. The top compartment turns into its own backpack… definitely the best feature of its kind on the market. The daypack is significantly more robust than REI flash 18 which I used to pack in my old backpack for daypacking during long trips. Overall super pleased and would recommend to anyone.

Versatile

Familiarity:
I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

I haven’t had a chance to really load this pack out for a good trip and this review is just from my initial observation. Fit adjustments are straightforward with enough range to overlap in-betweeners such as myself. Quality materials and craftsmanship are top notch as to be expected with Osprey. Weight is very light for a pack this size, especially considering the detachable pack. Looking forward to putting this beauty to the test this spring!

Osprey Packs Aether AG 70L Backpack

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I will always return to Osprey whenever I need a new pack. Their All Mighty Guarantee is reason enough to trust them. That being said, this pack is fantastic! It is solidly built, with compartments that are well thought out. Overall, the fit of the pack is great and easy to adjust as the terrain/load change. I can’t wait to get this out on the trail once the weather gets nicer.

Is this osprey aether Ag back pack 70L Also compatable for women or is this specifically a men’s pack?

Hey Elise, the Aether is going to be specifically designed as a Men's pack. The women's version is the Aura. That being said either can be worn by either gender the fit will just vary a bit. Usually the women's packs will have narrower shoulders and be a little shorter and stouter. The men's packs will typically have wider shoulders and be a bit taller. If you have any other questions feel free to reach out to me via the information listed above.
