Piz Boval Insulated Jacket

Unless you're the coldest person in the entire world you probably won't skin all the way up the mountain with your shell on. Most backcountry enthusiasts know that once that thing starts packing heat it's into the backpack it goes. But even when you're shedding heat and weight it's still nice to have some of the benefits of a shell in unpredictable mountain weather, which is why Ortovox made the Piz Boval Insulated Jacket. This lightweight, insulated jacket has a windproof and water-resistant shell fabric to shield you from alpine winds and flurrying snows, while innovative insulation ensures comfortable warmth for active backcountry excursions.

Between slim and regualr fit

Size Bought:
XL
Height:
6' 1"

Great quality. Amazed how warm it is compared to the light material. I purchased an XL. Adequate length, not too tight in stomach and good length in arms. Great colors. However, I found the fit to be between slim and regular fit meaning the jacket may not allow you to have full range of motion. If I raise my arms with jacket zipped up I can feel a little constriction on the sides. Not a major issue. But just keep that in mind. If all you are doing is running or hiking, then this jacket would really be ideal because of lack of excess material. But if you need full range of motion, then maybe this jacket may not be the best for you. I am definitely more of a athletic build than a slim build but I usually do get full range of motion in all XL jackets I buy.

Medium insulation for spring and fall. Good size for me (5’ 8”). No complaints!

Terrible sizing

Size Bought:
M

I'm 5'9", 160lbs, and slim build. This jacket may be the worst fitting of anything I've ever purchased. Skin tight at my hips, baggy in the middle, and sleeves 3" too long. Bizzare. I also bought their baselayer leggings in medium and they were also too large.

This jacket is not only beautiful but just a brilliant design. It's reversible so you're basically getting 2 jackets in one, both with their own look. The jacket is incredibly light for how warm it is. I just got mine so haven't had a ton of time to test it out but wore it on 35 degrees Temps with 20mph wind today, for a 5 mile walk and I was comfy warm ( with a merino long sleeve underneath) I'll definitely update this review after more use, but I absolutely love it! The fit is perfect! I'm just over 6 feet tall (6 foot and 3/4") weigh 170lbs, athletic build. The large fits great! And wow what an awesome deal I got! Yes, Ortovox can be expensive, however, you get what you pay for. This jacket is made in Europe and just scream quality! If you wait and catch and sale and or use your points, you can really get some good deals here. The pockets are roomy, (2 outside and 1 inside) or the reverse depending on which way you wear the jacket. The color is absolutely beautiful! I got the teal green and it looks just like the picture. The reverse side is a very nice kind of navy blue color (that's the best I can describe it) Being reversible, and so light for the warmth it gives, coupled with 3 pockets and a beautiful look, this is a home run IMHO.
