I have put this jacket through the paces and am super impressed with how it has held up. The vents are great and easy for me to reach when I need to open them and there is enough space in the front for me to stick my skins on the descent. I have wide shoulders and this jacket fits perfect and hits my hips at the exact spot I like. I am 5'9 and weigh 165 and I wear a Large. This leaves plenty of room for my transceiver and extra layers. I like the front chest zipper pocket, its handy spot for snacks and the cuffs are great for sealing in cold air. I spend time standing in snow pits teaching and the hood has enough give to pull over my head, even with a helmet, without pulling tight. The small pocket in the arm is great for resort skiing for a pass. I highly recommend this jacket!

As a mountain guide in Alaska, I use this jacket year round! In the winters, it's the first thing I grab for ski trips. It's the perfect weight - burly enough to not worry about it tearing easily, but not so bulky you hate to toss it in your pack. The pit zips do the trick on the uptrack, and it provides a nice wind and moisture barrier on the way down! The fit is fantastic - enough room to fit my bulky shoulders, but not flared out at the waist like so many jackets like to do for our ladylike hips. The wrist cuffs are nice and wide, and tighten down nicely to fit into the gauntlet of my ski gloves - allowing for a nice seal and toasty wrists. If I could modify one thing, I would add additional pockets - for ski straps, leatherman, glove liners, and lots of snacks! The color scheme is also fantastic and looks super sharp! I am a member of the Ortovox team and have been given this product to test and use.

Stands up to the worst PNW storms

Ortovox was kind enough to send me this jacket to test and review. I am new to skiing so have mainly been bringing it to the resort although I hope to bring it to the backcountry and mountaineering trips in the Spring. Pros: I have had many shells and always had issues with them wetting through at some point even with re-waterproofing. I have taken this into some of the worst storms in the PNW (Rain, snow, sleet, etc) and it kept my torso completely dry even when my "waterproof" gloves and pants had completely wet through. If I am ever unsure about the weather forecast I will always reach for this shell because it has proven it can hold up. Cons: No pockets. I am assuming this is because it is meant to be a mountaineering shell and worn with a harness/to keep the weight low. Since I have been testing this downhill skiing at the resort, the lack of pockets was a little bit of a bummer. I doubt I would miss them while roped in though. The fit is also a little narrow in the hips. Probably fine for a lot of women, but I have a much larger bottom half than top half so keeping the jacket over my hips is a struggle, especially when I have snow pants on underneath. Overall this is a great jacket and one I will reach for often, even with the slight fit issue and lack of pockets!
