The rugged, tempered aluminum Kodiak features a telescoping handle so you get more leverage when you dig, yet it’ll fit neatly in your pack. upgrade from Voile telepro

About the same weight as a Voile Telepro, but a few inches shorter so it stows easier. I like the rubber grip and the hoe set up. Also the blade stores flatter than a Voile if you take the shovel apart. I stow it together and it fits better than an assembled Telepro. Its a very well thought-out shovel.

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This is my go to shovel. Yes, it's heavy. But that's because it's a beast. Would you rather hear your partner whine up the skin track about their heavy pack, or would you rather their plastic shovel break when they are digging you out of debris? Yeah, I thought so...

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This is a workhorse of a shovel. The length and size of the shovel is capable of moving alot of snow. This shovel has the least amount of play in the shafts than any other shovel I have used. The serrated blade helps with chopping through ice. The hoe mode is a nice feature for backup digging. Also, the back of the blade is nice and smooth so you can get a nice smooth snow pit for analyzing snow pack. The only cons of the shovel are weight and the release button for removing the shovel from the shafts gets frozen and sticks after digging. If you use a shovel on a regular basis, this is the one to get.
