My heavy hitter for S&R and Pit Work

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I reach for this one for search and rescue work and for major snow pit work. It is an absolute beast and can move snow very well. The D-shaped handle works great if you need to wear mitts in arctic cold temps. I am an Ortovox Ambassador and received this shovel to test and use.

As good as any other

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

Love the added 90 degree feature for digging pits. Yet to use it in an emergency, but really satisfied with weight, functionality, fit in backpack vs anything else I've had.

Does Its Job

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I picked this up as I wanted a shovel that could move a large amount of snow quickly, had a D shaped handle, and could operate at a 90 degree shovel angle. This shovel certainly has not disappointed. I have dug a number of pits with this so far and its works incredibly well. Fortunately I have not had to use it in a rescue scenario but I have no doubt in my mind that it would work well when I needed it most!

Hello will this fit in the new Dakine Poacher RAS 18L and 36L outter pocket?

Hi Todd, I saw your question and thought I'd help you out! My roommate has the 26L Poacher, and I own the Kodiak, so I went home and made sure it fit - it sure does! So I have no doubt that it will also fit in the 36L outter pocket. Just to be thorough, I had our GearGurus here at Backcountry track down a 18L in the warehouse, and they sent me this photo to confirm it will fit. Looks like you are all good!
