    Queen of the backcountry.

Mount you one-ski quiver and claim your place as the guardian of the realm—the backcountry realm, that is. Gone are the days of icky feeling hardshells, for the Ortovox Women's Guardian Shell Jacket is here. Featuring a functional Toray Dermizax EV waterproof and windproof membrane, with a deliciously soft, moisture-managing merino wool lining, the Guardian is ready to charge up switchbacks and slice through billowing pow on the descent.

Although this jacket has all the glam features you'd expect from a bulkier resort-oriented jacket, the Guardian weighs in at less than two pounds—not too shabby for a shell with zippered underarm vents, a two-way adjustable storm hood, and removable powder skirt with elastic insert. Two high front pockets and one inner pocket provide access to your small items when you're harnessed up for a skimo mission, and the pass pocket stashes your RFID card if you decide to catch some chairlift laps after your dawn patrol.

    • Tour in merino wool comfort with stormproof protection
    • Toray Dermizax EV membrane breathes and locks out water
    • Deliciously comfortable merino wool lining
    • Two-way adjustable storm hood blocks wind
    • Front pockets stay accessible in harnesses
    • Underarm zips keep you cool while hiking
    • Regular fit with flat seams for durability
    • Item #ORT003J

Wife liked mine so much...she got one

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

    Where do we start?
This jacket checks every box I could name. The cut is roomy without being too boxy, and the style is on point. We both have Gardian jackets (and pants), and love them. Highly recommend.

    Armpits cut too tight

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: L
    • Height: 6'0"
    • Weight: 175lbs

I bought and returned this after trying on both L and XL sizes. The fit pulls your base layer into your armpits. I fit the bottom numbers on the L size but that didn't leave any room for a base layer. The XL fits the baselayer but didn't give enough armpit room. Size up for a baselayer. Would probably fit someone with skinny shoulders.

I am in love with the fabric in the Guardian line, it’s far and away my favorite shell that I’ve ever owned. It breathes like nothing else, yet seems to repel water like a champ. I wish there was somewhere to put my hands- you can’t imagine how it feels to be an awkward girl standing there with awkward hands wondering what to do with them.. lol. The system is designed to be harness compatible for those gnarly alpine ascents!

Is this jacket insulated at all? It says "wool lining" but I can't figure out if that is just a thin lining, or if it actually serves as insulation. Looking to use this jacket mainly for backcountry, and uphill travel, and if it is truly insulated worried that it will be too warm
