There’s a reason these things are still around.

With no moving parts and a classic, burly design, the Omega Pacific Figure8 Rappel Device is one of the most versatile tools on your rack. Whether you’re performing an on-mountain rescue or lowering into a narrow slot canyon, this old school device is sure to come in handy.

    Great Gear

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This is a basic piece of gear for canyoneering and rappelling. It works great and is fairly light weight. Everyone should have some sort of dedicated rappelling piece in their gear bag. This one is just an inexpensive and highly effective option.

    Love Omega Pacific

I use these for setting rope blocks used in Canyoneering. This review mostly pertains to Backcountry. This was a deal as other online companies offered this 8 for $15.00 bought them for them on sale 10 bucks! and shipping is always 2 days with purchase over $50.00 - they will take care of you.

      Well made, inexpensive

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I use an ATC for most things, but got this to throw in a rescue/retrieval kit for river running, along with the 10.3 static rope. It's quick and easy to use, small (flat), and inexpensive.

      Great piece of eqiptment

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Just like the description states, great piece of gear, I love having mine, and use it all the time. I have seen some reviews that claim that this is not ok to belay people on, it's not encouraged, but I have no problem belaying on the 8 for ten years, does not have as much friction as an atc, but its cheap and strong and utilitarian. Everything you would expect from a figure 8.

      Like it says...

I got this to attach myself to a highline with a non-directional and strong piece. It's considerably more substantial in your hand than the Black Diamond 8. The BD 8 is actually quite a bit thinner near the top of the large opening, and only rated to 22 kN, where as this is the same thickness aluminum throughout. I realize the difference between 35 kN and 22 kN strength ratings is pretty academic for a 6 foot fall, but this offers a lot more psychological pro than the BD version. I can't comment on it's intended use, because I likely won't ever use it for that.

i'm stoopid... where's the button to add...

i'm stoopid... where's the button to add this to my gear list?
