Why We Like The Castine 145 Kayak

The largest option in Old Town's Castine touring line, the Castine 145 2018 Kayak is ready for weekends on Lake Tahoe or camping trips down the Green River; at a length of fourteen and a half feet, this touring kayak provides good tracking on open water, and can support larger kayakers, lots of gear, and plenty of adventure.

Perforated cushioning on the ACS2 seat gives you multi-day comfort so you can focus on the peace of spotting osprey or float time with your spouse, and the seat can be adjusted along with foot and thigh braces for a comfortable, in-control ride.

Has the features I was looking for.

What separates this boat from other boats in this size/price range? Larger cockpit opening. More room for big feet and easier to get in and out. Wider: makes it more stable and increases capacity. Length: short enough to still be maneuverable on rivers but big enough to carry several days worth of food and gear. Comfortable seat. Quality outfitting. Not the fastest boat, and heavy, but other considerations may outweigh that for many.

I love this kayak great stability, great bulkheads, etc. backcountry was fantastic and their customer service was helpful and responsive. I will order from them again. I WILL NOT order anything large though. Kayak arrived with several small gouges in it. Several non removable stains were all around it and decals were torn. They did say I could return it, but they have no more. It took a long time to find this kayak. If I had returned it who knows when I would find another from somewhere that would ship. CEVA is a horrible shipper. I ordered a three thousand dollar grill from them that also arrived mangled. Backcountry is good but it really sucked expecting a nice new shiny perfect kayak and ending up with something that looks two or three years old.
