    Ziplongs 3/4 Microfleece Pant

You're up at four in the morning for a ski tour and your buddies are rushing you out the door and onto the trail. You look like you've gotten dressed in the dark (because you have), and it also looks like you've gotten dressed in the cold—but you've got a trick up your sleeve. Your buddies' aghast looks aside, you'll be happy to drop trow on the skin track and remove the Northern Playground Men's Ziplongs 3/4 Microfleece Pant when things have warmed up and everyone else is overheating. Thanks to the full-length zipper on this baselayer, you get to be warm and toasty in those first cold hours on the tour, but don't have to sweat your way to the top. The polyester blend is stretchy enough for kick turns, and quick-drying so you don't find yourself cold and clammy before you have a chance to shed the extra layer.

    • Easy-to-remove leggings for active pursuits in changing conditions
    • Polyester blend is quick-drying and offers performance stretch
    • Full-length zipper makes these easy to remove when it heats up
    • 3/4-length reduces bulk and bunching when wearing ski boots
    • Padding on zipper prevents chafing and discomfort as you move
    • Slim fit offers performance fit and can be layered under shell pant
    • Item #NPG000A

    Helpful sizing and weight information

Familiarity:I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    Fit:Runs small
    Size BoughtMedium
    Height5` 8"
    Weight165 lbs

This is a really great idea. I love entrepreneurs that come up with innovative stuff like this. Here is my feedback on sizing, insulation weight and quality: 1: These do run small. I'm 5'8, 32" waist, 23" quad, 15" calf, 165 pounds, athletic build. I can barely get the Medium in these on. Maybe okay as a snug baselayer, but no way as a mid-layer, which is what I wanted these for. So size up for sure unless you want a very snug fit. 2. These are a light insulation weight item. I wanted something along the lines of a mid-weight wool or polartec mid-layer. These are barely heavier than my super-lightweight base layer. I simply don't find that these offer much insulation value at all. To me, if you are billing this a something you can start the day off with to keep you warm, then ditch it when the day heats up - it should be an item that materially adds insulation. In all but super high output activities I just don't feel like these add meaningful insulation. If you want something with a very lightweight insulation value these would be fine. 3. Lastly, the quality seems very good, the zippers are very well made and should be durable. I think these are well made. Love the idea of these, just wish the material was more robust. For cold ski touring mornings, or early alpine climbing starts, these are just too light to be of much value in my opinion. Thanks for reading -

    Fit way small

Familiarity:I returned this product before using it
    Fit:Runs small
    Size BoughtXL

Either the size Large I ordered was mis-marked or the size chart is way off. I'm a 34 waist in a street pant but I couldn't even get these zipped around my thighs. Have ordered an XL to try. Received the XL and still can't fit into these even though the size chart suggests they should be huge on me. XL waist OK but thighs tight and couldn't get zipped over the top of my calfs. Ridiculous, I give up.

    No Fly Zone?

    Familiarity:I've used it several times
    Fit:True to size

I've done a handful of ski tours with these now and I'm very impressed with the material and attention to detail. The fleece is substantial. Thick and warm, it compares to the expedition weight fleece Patagonia used for years before they moved to the grid backed thermal weight they sell now. The fit seemed a bit tight at first, but only on first zip-up. Once I was moving the tight feeling disappeared. The fit and fabric combine to keep these in place while I ski. Even without a drawstring the waist never crept down. And in use, the calves don't seem to ride up either. The outer face of the fabric rides smoothly without binding to my hardshell or softshell pants. The inner fleece feels warm and fuzzy against my skin. The side zippers are quality, and that they're color-coded is a stroke of genius. All in all these tights are the bees knees. My one quibble, and what cost these tights a star, is that there's no fly. This is kind of a pain as you have to drop trou to drain the dragon. Not that big a deal on a nice day, but on a howly day with a parka, hardshell pants with suspenders, and a climbing harness, it's a hassle getting to the side zip to access my Johnson. On such days, exposed to the elements, the pithy saying NP printed where a fly should be comes off more snide than playful. Otherwise, these pants are brilliant.

    Super Useful

Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

A Norwegian friend originally showed me zip-longs a couple years ago, and since then I've used them a bunch, both the wool version and the fleece version (both in the 3/4 length). It may seem an odd concept at first glance, to have side-zips on an underlayer rather than on a shell pant, but they are incredibly useful. I use them mostly for backcountry skiing and ski mountaineering, but also for general mountaineering. I leave my shell pant on all day, which is best in a snowy environment, and take the zip-longs on or off depending on temperature (usually skinning up versus skiing down, but also changes in aspect, weather, etc). It is super easy to adjust how warm my legs are, without taking off my shell pants, boots, skis, or crampons. If I have a harness on I take it off first in order to take off or don the zip-longs, but my friend with more skillz can take on or off his zip-longs even while wearing his harness! Fleece or wool is kinda a question of personal preference, but if I could own only one it'd be the fleece - I like that synthetic is always faster to dry than wool, and I like that they are lighter-weight.

Got to wear them for a full season of backcountry skiing. Keeps me warm when really cold. Great in spring when it gets warm during the day and one does not have to take off the boots to shed a layer. . 3/4 length fits perfect with ski boots. No problem for fit even with large calf muscles, did not experience that it rode up towards the knees. Definitely recommend this quality product!
