i bought this jacket when it was on sale a few months ago and really looked at it hanging in my house with the tags still on for a good long time before i took the plunge, put it on and wore it outside for its maiden voyage. i'll be honest: i was having a hard time stomaching the price and knew nothing about the brand.

i've lived in the pacific northwest for almost 30 years and had all manner of rain jacket, parka, insulated jacket, vest, etc. i could never find the perfect jacket that allowed me to not end up drenched when the heavens opened...until the dog and i got caught in a rainstorm where the drops were coming at me sideways and we ended up back at the car soaked, with the exception of everything underneath this incredible jacket!

it is 100% rainproof, great fitting, simple yet with enough areas that allow for personalized cinching that you can customize how tight you want the hood, waist, etc. i like the placement of the two pockets and was initially hoping for another down lower around waist level but i know that when i go to use this jacket for snowshoeing and other activities when i'll also have a backpack on, i'll understand why the two front chest-height element-protected (sealed) pockets are where they are.

now, when the forecast shows rain (which is almost always does here in seattle,) i am psyched to don this jacket and go out without fear of returning drenched. in short, the price tag on this jacket may turn some people off, but if you've been looking for a great fitting, perfectly functioning multi-use coat, i would seriously check this out. it's the kind of item i am going to have for potentially the rest of my life but i know that i also won't be complaining about being cold and wet anytime soon. so glad i made this decision and super excited to be able to drag it along on a variety of upcoming adventures!

I am in love with this jacket. I was debating between Norrona and Arc'teryx.. and am very happy with my choice. So far I have worn this jacket on hikes through snow and insane winds and it has held up wonderfully. It has kept me warm and comfortable, but the pit-zips are great to cool me back down when I get a little too warm without having to fully remove the jacket.
I wore this on a backpacking trip summiting a 13,000' peak, and the winds were minimum 60mph... probably closer to 80. With this jacket I only had a baselayer long sleeve shirt on underneath despite the ambient temp being about 20F, not sure how cold it was with the wind chill! I made it to the summit plenty warm with my face fully protected by the large hood to minimize the wind burn... and kept it on all the way back down to the base just by unzipping the vents.
I have only worn this about a month so far, but it still looks brand new despite multiple trips out with a backpack. Taking it on my trip up Aconcagua next month and I'll post an updated review after that!
