Premium performance with style to match.

The Norrona Men's Roldal Gore-Tex Jacket combines urban-inspired looks with protection you can take from the resort to the backcountry. It's lightweight and breathable to handle long tours, yet also provides the weatherproofing needed to keep you dry when you're riding lifts in a blizzard.

Gore-Tex three-layer fabric is guaranteed waterproof to ensure you stay dry in the wettest snowstorms, and it's also highly breathable to allow vapor to escape when you're working up a sweat on arduous skintracks. The relaxed fit allows room to layer underneath when temperatures plummet and offers a laid-back look. Zippered underarm vents release excess heat when you're hiking a steep stretch or skiing an intense bump run.

The powder skirt features silicone grip to prevent it from riding up, and if that isn't enough, you can also attach the Roldal to your Norrona pants using the Zip-Seal system to keep snow out on the deepest powder days. The storm hood shields your face from the elements without inhibiting your vision, and it's helmet-compatible so you can wear it over your brain bucket. Stretch wrist gaiters keep snow from getting up your sleeves. Multiple pockets secure everyday essentials.

Good fit - not tested, just tried on.

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: Small
    • Height: 5'7"
    • Weight: 145lbs

You can tell from handling the jacket that it is of excellent quality, the inner lining is plush as well as warm. Not a thick material nor thin, however I would describe this as a medium weight jacket, unlike to most snowboard jackets ive worn.

Size: I am right between small and medium sizes at 5'7 and 145lbs, not by any means ripped, nor have excess fat. The norrona line is made for the taller riders, so I was unsure and tried both sizes. However I found the fit of the small to be excellent.

The jacket: Longer length, a little baggy to allow freedom of movement. The hood, as noted, is giant, and the armpit fits close to the chest (37" chest) Just worthy of note.
The medium was massive on me and very oversized. I usually fit Medium in volcom jackets for a similar fit so worth baring in mind.

TL;DR: Overall great jacket which I have no doubt will live up to expectations. Runs big!

    very well made, strange sizing

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

jacked is very well made, other reviews describe craftsmanship. the material is heavier reinforced gore-tex and seems more robust than the lofoten line.
con: Norrona is known for slim sizing, but this jacket takes it to the extreme, sizing under armpits is extremely tight, while rest of the coat is oversized

    Awesome Jacket

I just got the jacket and the fit and finish is awesome, I was worried after reading the reviews that it would be too big but I think it fits great, its heavy duty stuff so I wouldn't say take it on a backpacking trip or anything but for skiing or riding in the cascades (or wasatch this year) its awesome.

I bought this as an early Christmas present for a family member, and from what I gather... they're pretty freakin' stoked on it. To say the least: they're sitting inside, on the couch, wearing it - right now.

All the LOLs aside, this jacket is prime. The Gore-Tex is pretty heavy duty, which is optimal as it protects against bitter winds and winter weather, while the breathable nature of Gore-Tex ensures his layers underneath remain comfortable. The ventilation system is way cool (as others have indicated) and is easy to use with a gloved hand. The hood is generous, but thus far he hasn't had any complaints about it.

As for the fit, my Uncle is a pretty tall dude (unlike my short self). I'd venture to say he's somewhere around 6'3" and is pretty fit, so I ordered a large for him and it fits splendidly. It's got enough room to layer appropriately underneath, without looking like he's wearing a shapeless plastic bag.

Also, the Cyclone color is definitely a little more dark (think dirty grey blue) than the picture implies.

All in all, my uncle is WAY stoked.

    Norway for the win

What's all the hype about Norrona you ask? Well the company has been around since 1929 and has been making top notch gear the entire time. When I was introduced to the brand, it was described as the "European Arc'teryx." I would contest that after purchasing this jacket, their gear is even better and i truly consider myself an Arc fan boy. From the first time I put the jacket on, it just felt durable, well made, and articulated to take on the longest of ski days. The jacket is definitely made to fit the long arms and lanky torso of Norsemen, but I found it makes for a very comfortable fit that isn't restrictive. Another thing to note is that this jacket is HEAVY... if you are looking for a lightweight shell, look elsewhere. Perhaps my favorite features of the jacket is the vent on the chest and the pit zips that are extremely easy to open and close to dump heat to your hearts content. As an added bonus, the urban styling of this jacket allows it to be a versatile piece so you can rock it on the slopes all day and stroll into the Tram club afterwards for a little Apres ski. All in all, this is the favorite shell I own, and I have become a total fan of what they are cranking out in Norway.

It definitely pays to be fit...

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 6'1"

After buying several Norrona items over the years, and reading many of the reviewers comments, one thing remains constant - if you are not fit, and have a standard body type, Norrona is not your brand.

Norrona did a great job of designing this jacket. One of my favorite features is the chest vent. Almost every jacket on the market has under arm zip vents, but if you want to cool off quick, I dare you to find anything that works better than this.

The "Y" design to the sleeves means you can raise your arms without the waist of the jacket also rising. Two different placements of velcro allow you to leave the sleeves loose over your gloves or tighten them down to block out the wind and snow.

Being that this jacket is "Urban" styled, I chose to size down to a Medium. I still have enough room for a mid weight base layer and the Loften Warm2 Fleece jacket. I normally wear a size Large in most jackets/shirts.

At first wear, the hood definitely takes some getting use too. I rarely ski with a hood up - even during storms - but the design of the opening helps lock this tight agains your helmet when down so nothing gets in. With that being said, the hood turned out to be the deal breaker. No matter how I tried to adjust it, the hood always rubbed against the helmet.

All in all a great weather proof Gore-Tex un-insulated shell with some unique design features to make life easier.

Great ideas, but some glaring issues

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium and large (M fit best)
    • Height: 5'9"
    • Weight: 180lbs

For someone who is 6'3" this jacket is ideal. if you are under 6' no matter if you get the large or medium as i tried both... the jackets are quite long, for me at 5'9". The athletic fit is restricting in my experience, where I found it nearly impossible to do a board grab / bend over considering the tightness in the waist (I have a 32 waist btw.) It ends up fitting like a womens tight dress. I'm down for length, but found it poorly implemented here. The hood is a garbage bag with no where to go when it is down, making it not a coat practical to use off of the mountain. The wrist gaiters seem like they would end up breaking in a year or so considering how flimsy and poorly designed they are (very thin, not rolled fabric just hard cut making the thumb contact point uncomfortable.) This really sucked cuz this jacket seems crazy bombproof. The thing feels like an indestructible tank when you wear it. If norrona fixed these problems, it might just be one of the best coats out there.

Good if you have long arms

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: M
    • Height: 5'9"
    • Weight: 155lbs

I really dig the styling of this jacket as well as the quality feel of the material and zippers. What I don't like is the fit. I ordered a medium because I read that it runs a little large. The length was a little longer than your normal jacket and that was nice. But the arms are really long and with gloves on I had a ton of extra material bunched up at the elbows. Also, the chest felt pretty tight even with just a t-shirt on. I ended up returning the jacket because for a pretty pricey item I want the fit to be perfect. If you have long arms and steer clear of the bench press I would recommend this for you. It is an extremely good looking jacket. I bought the Caviar color and planned to match it up with the Roldal pants in green,

Love the urban styling and fit

    • Size Bought: Large
    • Height: 6'2"

I just got the Norrona Roldal Gore-Tex jacket in Caviar, and so far I'm impressed. I really like the roomy fit and added length - it has a cool, yet understated look to it. The material is burley, and in a cool, almost workwear type of way - I have no doubt that this jacket will handle everything I can throw at it on skis as well as my snomobile.

    Holy Hood!

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: XL
    • Height: 6'3"
    • Weight: 200lbs

No doubt a solid shell, this thing will take a beating and keep the elements out no problem. Just used it over a mid layer and the fit was almost perfect. I'm a taller, slimmer guy so I'm right in between a large and an XL because of lengths in the sleeve and center back. The fit came right below my butt and to the middle knuckle on my fingers which was pretty sweet.

The two complaints I have with the jacket are the hood and the wrist gators. The hood is massive! I understand that some people put their hood over their helmet but this one seems a little excessive. If there were more ways to adjust the hood besides the rear cinch, it would be much more reasonable. With the wrist gators, the jacket has a straight cut around the thumb loop. Its not rolled to make it a softer feel around your thumb. Certainly not a deal breaker on both of these points but something to think about.

A longer fit with bomb proof protection, put a mid under it and you'll be good to go!

awesome looks and sturdy quality jacket.

    • Fit: Runs large

I haven't got a chance to use it yet but I can tell that this jacket will rock the mountain from the experienced of owning a few Norrona ski pants and jackets in the past. The material and simplistic design are awesome. I can't wait to use.
