Lyngen Down850 Knickers

When you need that little extra boost of warmth in the backcountry, slip on the Norrona Lyngen Down850 Knickers. Designed for ease of use with full side zips and a boot-compatible 3/4 cut, these pants are an innovative and convenient way to stay warm on cold ascents and alpine adventures. The body is insulated with lightweight yet insanely warm 850-fill down insulation, while the seat features synthetic insulation that won't mat down or soak through when you take a load off in some wet snow. Whether you rock it under your shell or as an outer layer, you won't have to fumble with your boots to get them on or off, thanks to the lengthy side zippers. Your ski boots and long winter socks will make up for the missing lower-leg warmth, and when you decide that the weather's warmed up enough to ditch your knickers, you can stuff them down small and throw them in your pack. You may get some looks rocking them at aprés spots, but they get the job done in the backcountry and that's all that matters.

  • Pack these insulated pants for added warmth on ski touring trips
  • Down insulation warms you up in cold high-altitude environments
  • Synthetic insulation in the seat stays warm when you pop a squat
  • Full-length side zips allow for easy on off above or below a shell
  • 3/4 cut delivers targeted warmth and saves weight where it can
  • Easily compressible to fit in stuff sacks and day packs

I've been looking for down pant for a few years for skiing and these are almost perfect. The down filling is very warm w/o being overly puffy and the full length zipper make for easy on/off with ski boots on. The only complaint is they are tad short. In the picture I'm wearing with ski boots and there is an 1-2" gap. However, with a shell on the gap isn't noticeable. I ordered a XL because I'm likely to be wearing a heavy/medium base lay when conditions need down pants.

I've

How compact can these compress to? Like the size of a 1L water bottle?

Size question. I am 5'8", 142 lbs, 30-31 inch waist and usually wear a small in outdoor pants and shells. It looks from the size chart like a small would fit best - especially for around camp or underneath shells, but would there be enough room to throw over my Patagonia Powslayers or other shells?
